MHS/ / Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist S I Substance Misuse

The Consultant General Adult SI Substance Misuse for the new Dual Diagnosis service will be part of

the existing group of Consultant Psychiatrists in the Dublin South & Wicklow Mental Health Services area and will have access to resources equivalent to their other Consultant colleagues. The post holder will also be working in partnership with the HSE Addiction Services in Social Inclusion and Liaison

Psychiatry colleagues in the Acute hospitals where this exists. In addition, this post holder will also be

linking in with the community and voluntary agencies and other statutory supports as part of their role.

The post holder will work closely with their fellow Consultants to further develop the community orientated service; promote the efficient use of resources; develop services to enhance community care of patients; to minimise crises and pressure on in-patient services: and to facilitate the delivery of current and future clinical programmes. They will support the on-going timely response to referrals to the service, enabling the improvement of waiting lists and ensuring a timely response to urgent referrals and ensuring targets are met.

The Consultant will provide outpatient care, domiciliary visits, and emergency assessments and will chair the weekly Multidisciplinary Team meetings. There is a very strong Multidisciplinary Team ethos. The Team facilitates the most efficient use of inpatient beds by providing intensive care and support to avoid hospitalisation. When inpatient care is required, they will b e admitted under the appropriate catchment area consultant.

The post holder will also work closely and in partnership with members of the multidisciplinary with input from Nursing, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work health care professionals, employment officers and supported by administrative staff.This is an initial 1 year Temporary appointment to HSE Dublin South East & Wicklow Healthcare Area (Mental Health Services) on a Public Only Consultant Contract 2023 by the Health Service Executive. The initial commitment for this post will be to HSE Dublin South East & Wicklow Mental Health Services for 37 hours per week. This post may be subject to restructuring in the future to facilitate the reorganization of acute services in line with new clinical models of acute and community services. It is noted that the post must be congruent with the requirements of, and facilitate implementation of national health policy, the HSE’s National Clinical Programmes including commitment to deliver the relevant performance outcomes.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Professional Qualifications

• Be registered or be eligible to be registeredas a specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of psychiatry

Entry to competition / recruitment process

• No candidate will be appointed as a Medical Consultant unless (s)he is registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland.

Health

• A candidate for and any person holding the post must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the post and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character

• A candidate for and any person holding the post must be of good character.

Entry to competition and subsequent appointment

• The successful interviewee must be registered as a Specialist in the relevant specialty on the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland before taking up appointment. The candidate will be allowed a max of 180 calendar days from date of interview to secure this registration and produce evidence of special interest training where relevant

• The Consultant is required to have access to transport

A scanned copy of both the front and back of your current Irish Residence Permit (IRP) showing Stamp 1G and your Marriage/Civil Partnership Certificate.

And

A scanned copy of your spouse’s passport showing their identification and current immigration stamp and a copy of their Critical Skills Employment Permit.

Or

A scanned copy of both the front and back of your spouse’s current Irish Residence Permit showing Stamp 4 and a copy of their Critical Skills Employment Permit.

Or

If your spouse holds a Stamp 2 for the purposes of PhD study, please include a copy of their passport showing their identification and current immigration Stamp 2, OR a scanned copy of

both the front and back of their current Irish Residence Permit (IRP) showing Stamp 2.

Applications not accompanied by the above documents, where necessary, will be considered incomplete and not processed any further.

This means that your application will not be submitted for the ranking exercise and subsequent invitation to interview.
