A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for a Clinical Placement Co-Ordinator from which current and future, specified purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration may be filled.

Purpose of the Post:

The post holder will guide and support undergraduate nursing students and staff in assigned clinical areas to ensure that the clinical placement meets the requirements of the education programme with regard to planned experiences and learning outcomes.

The remit of the post includes:

  • The provision of support to students, preceptors and nursing staff in all learning environments within the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.
  • The provision of support to the Assistant Director of Nursing – Practice Development Co-Ordinator and the Director of Nursing as required.
  • Providing a quality educational and supportive service to nursing students / staff on undergraduate nursing training programmes.
  • Participating in practice development as directed by the Assistant Director of Nursing – Practice Development Co-Ordinator and the Director of Nursing.

Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and / or Experience:

1. Professional Qualifications & Experience, etc.

Candidates must: -

(i) Be registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.

AND

(ii) Possess a 3rd Level Qualification at Level 7 (ordinary degree) or higher.

AND

(iii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years must be in a student learning environment.

AND

(iv) Have completed a Teaching and Assessing course.

AND

(v) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

2. Annual Registration

(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

AND

(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

*Please note that appointment to and continuation in posts that require statutory registration is dependent upon the post holder maintaining annual registration in the relevant division of the register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).*

Post Specific Requirements:

Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in a clinical learning environment appropriate to undergraduate nursing students and registered nurses as relevant to the role.
