Purpose of the Post:

The General Manager – Head of Function / Service (Acute Services) at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise shall give direction towards the achievement of its functions, including the strategic and operational plans and shall implement the strategic goals and objectives of the HSE and the HSE Dublin and Midlands Region.

The General Manager – Head of Function / Service (Acute Services) shall be responsible for the general control, management and performance of the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.

The General Manager – Head of Function / Service (Acute Services) shall promote and develop the interests of the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise at all times and in all respects to conform to and comply with the reasonable directions and regulations of the HSE.

Eligibility, Qualifications and / or Experience:

Candidates must have at the latest date of application: -

  • A relevant Primary Degree Qualification.
  • At least 5 years’ experience at Operational or Senior Management level in a healthcare setting.
  • Have a proven track record of achievement consistent with this job specification in a healthcare setting.
  • Have demonstrated capacity to achieve results through multi-disciplinary and cross-sectoral working in a related service.
  • Career progression through continuing professional development.

Post Specific Requirements:

  • Significant experience of strategic, operational and performance planning and management, as relevant to the role.
  • Experience of delivering change in a complex environment, as relevant to the role.
  • Experience of managing and working collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders in a multi-professional healthcare environment, as relevant to the role.
  • Experience of day to day operational and people management including recruitment and retention and performance management.
  • Highly developed specialist knowledge of managing multi-professional healthcare teams.
  • Budgetary management.
