There is currently permanent, whole-time Staff Grade Medical Scientist vacancies available in the Blood Transfusion Department at the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise.

A panel may be formed as a result of this campaign for a Staff Grade Medical Scientist – Blood Transfusion from which current and future, permanent and specified purpose vacancies of full-time or part-time duration may be filled.

Purpose of the Post:

In co-operation with the Senior Medical Scientist(s), Clinical Staff and the Chief Medical Scientist, the post holder will participate in the delivery of a quality laboratory service that supports the clinical needs of the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise patients / service users and is consistent with the Laboratory Quality Statement, mission, vision, values and strategic plan of the organisation.

Interdepartmental co-operation and team work is an essential component of providing an integrated Pathology service at MRHP.

Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and / or Experience:

*NEW GRADUATES 2024 are eligible to apply and will remain dormant on the panel until CORU registration is complete.*

1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

(a) Candidates for appointment must: -

(i) Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU.

AND

(ii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.

AND

(iii) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Scientists Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be issued.

2. Annual Registration

(i) On appointment, practitioners must maintain annual registration on the Medical Scientists Register maintained by the Medical Registration Board at CORU.

AND

(ii) Practitioners must confirm annual registration with CORU to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4. Character

Candidates for, and any person holding the office, must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements:

Demonstrate depth and breadth of post qualification experience in Haematology as relevant to the role.
