Multi-Disciplinary (MD) Medical Scientist

· Specified Purpose | Full- time | 35 hours p/w (immediate start).

· We are looking for a MD Medical Scientist to join our busy laboratory.

· Applications will be considered from Medical Scientists due to qualify from approved courses in 2025.

· The ideal candidate would be a dynamic Medical Scientist with an in-depth knowledge of and multi-disciplinary experience in Blood Sciences (Biochemistry & Haematology), Blood Transfusion and Microbiology.

· Qualifications for the post are stipulated by the Health Service Executive.

· Evidence of Registration with CORU must be supplied with the application.

Medical Laboratory Aide (MLA)

· Specified Purpose | Full- time | 39 hours p/w (immediate start).

· The ideal candidate would be a dynamic MLA with previous experience working in a hospital laboratory or science laboratory.

· Qualifications for the post are stipulated by the Health Service Executive.

The National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh (NOHC) has 37 Orthopaedic Surgeons and is Ireland’s largest dedicated Orthopaedic centre, the national referral centre for post-prosthetic joint infections, Ireland’s primary referral centre for bone and soft tissue tumours, and the dedicated surgical centre for the National Sarcoma Service. NOHC also provides orthopaedic oncology, rehabilitation, rheumatology and paediatric services, and sports and exercise medicine. Home to the National Bone Bank, the Hospital is affiliated with RCSI, UCD and DCU as a teaching establishment. Moreover, we undertake exciting research in collaboration with academic partners, peers, scientists, engineers and industry.

The Blood Science & Blood Transfusion Departments at NOHC processes approximately 120,000 & 26,000 tests annually and are accredited to ISO 15189:2022. The Blood Science & Blood Transfusion Departments also provides Pathology services to an external Private Hospital and are well equipped with technology/instrumentation; Winpath LIS, Beckman Coulter Au480, Beckman Coulter Access, Arkray, Radiometer ABL Flex 90, Cell Dyn Ruby, Sysmex, ACL Top, and IH500. The NOHC Laboratory Blood Science & Blood Transfusion Departments operate a multi-disciplinary on-call service and multi-disciplinary extended working day.

The Microbiology Department at NOHC processes approximately 30,000 samples per annum and is accredited to ISO 15189:2022. The Microbiology Department also provides Pathology services to an external Private Hospital, as well as, the National and Regional Bone Banks, and is licensed as a Tissue Establishment (2004/23/EC) by the Health Products Regulatory Authority. The Microbiology Department is well equipped with technology/instrumentation; Winpath LIS, Vitek 2, BacT/ALERT and GeneXpert. The Microbiology Department operates a weekend service and the extended working day.
