The salary scale for this post is in accordance with HSE approved salary scales (01/06/2026).
€36,651, €38,130, €39,687, €40,101, €41,118, €41,998, €43,264, €44,577, €45,939
New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.
As per HR Circular 012/25 Please note that previous experience working in the public service counts only where the individual was employed directly by the relevant Civil Service/Public Body. It does not apply for temporary assignments with those bodies while engaged as an agency worker and employed by a private sector employment agency. Exemptions can be found at the following link.

Purpose of the Post
To work as part of the Household/Portering team in providing services and care to patients in Roscommon University Hospital.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- The post holder will support the principle that care of the patient comes first at all times and will approach their work with the flexibility and enthusiasm necessary to make this principle a reality for every patient to the greatest possible degree
- Maintain awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all hospital activities
- Performance management systems are part of the role and you will be required to participate in the Group’s performance management programme
· The multi task attendant will be required to work in the Household Cleaning and Portering Departments
Duties specific to the Housekeeping:
· Attend for duty as assigned by the Domestic Supervisor / Household Services Manager, and at such hours as he/shedetermines from time to time
- The person holding this post is required to provide to work on the cleaning teams
- Carry out their daily duties with regard to patients dignity and privacy, in line with HIQA Standards for Better Safer Healthcare,
- The post holder is expected to carry out his/ her duties with compassion, respect and consideration for both patients and other staff
- Ward cleaning is managed through a bleep/pager system please ensure that this bleep/pager is carried at the start of the business until close
- Be accountable for the provision of your work and perform in a manner that is efficient, effective and of the highest standard
- Be punctual.
- Work as part of the Cleaning Teams. You may at times be required to work also on the catering team as service needs.
- Environmental Health Regulations, Health Information & Quality Authority (HIQA) and HSE regulations
- Adhere to best practice to Health and Safety Act
- Ensure efficient and economical use of materials and equipment
- Ensure that duties are carried out as specified on cleaning schedules and signing off on work when completed
- Rotate with roster duties when required
- Attend training courses when required
- Any other duties relevant to the post that might evolve through service changes.
The Housekeeping Department operates 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, working hours will/ can include:
· Night Duty
· Weekend Work
· Unsocial Hours
· Shift work
Duties specific to Portering:
· Attend for duty as assigned by the Domestic Supervisor / Household Services Manager, and at such hours as he/shedetermines from time to time
· The day-to-day Portering service is managed through a bleep/pager system, each porter is required to carry a bleep/pager, please ensure that this bleep/pager is carried at the start of the business until close
- Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards as they apply to the role for example, Standards for Healthcare, national Standards for the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections, Hygiene Standards etc. and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role
- Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service.
- Ensure accuracy in Patient Identification.
- Ensure all patients are dealt with in a dignified and professional manner.
- Assist with movement of patients to all areas within the hospital.
- Assist with moving & handling of patients in all wards and departments as requested.
- Assist with transfer of patients to all departments.
- Chart pulling if required
- Collect blood and laboratory specimens and transfer to laboratory.
- Assist with transfer of deceased patients from the wards to the mortuary and also BIDs. (Persons brought in deceased) from the community
- Ensure all documentation associated with the mortuary is filled in accurately for example, deceased patients from the wards to the mortuary and also B.I.Ds (persons brought in deceased) from the community.
- Ensure all waste – clinical and household is collected and disposed of in the correct time and manner.
- Ensure delivery to all ward areas of clean linen and also to ensure correct collection and disposal of used linen
- Collection and delivery of mattresses to and from the mattress store to be carried out when requested
- Ensure all goods for disposal or repair are moved in timely manner
- Cleaning duties assigned to the Portering staff must be carried out in a timely manner and signed for when completed
- Keep patients trolleys clean and prepared with clean linen and supplied with oxygen at all times.
- Keep wheelchairs in each ward and department clean and in good repair.
- Perform telephone and reception duties.
- Attend for in-service training as required.
- You will at times be required to cover in the Theatre Department
- Work as part of a team.
- Co-operate and assist with National Audits.
- Retrieve and delivery of patient’s medical records.
- Ability to prioritise job requests.
- Checking oxygen (medical gases) levels on all depts. and also ensuring adequate levels in the medical gas storage area.
- To perform any other duties that may be assigned appropriate to their work.
· To present for work in full and proper clean uniform at rostered time, no strong-smelling perfumes/aftershave, or jewellery with the exception of wedding band.
· Attend training courses as directed by management
· Any other duties relevant to the post as may be allocated by the Hospital Management or Household Services Manager / Domestic Supervisor
The Portering Department operates 24 hour a day, 7 day a week, working hours will/ can include:
· Night Duty

KPI’s
- The identification and development of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) which are congruent with the Hospital’s service plan targets.
- The development of Action Plans to address KPI targets.
- Driving and promoting a Performance Management culture.
- In conjunction with line manager assist in the development of a Performance Management system for your profession.
- The management and delivery of KPIs as a routine and core business objective.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING GENERAL CONDITIONS:
· Employees must attend fire lectures periodically and must observe fire orders.
· All accidents within the Department must be reported immediately.
· Infection Control Policies must be adhered to.
· In line with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Acts 2005 and 2010 all staff must comply with all safety regulations and audits.
· In line with the Public Health (Tobacco) (Amendment) Act 2004, smoking within the Hospital Buildings is not permitted.

· The post holder must be familiar with the necessary education, training and support to enable them to meet this responsibility.

Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications and/ or experience
1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Possess the relevant QQI Further Education and Training (FET) Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills
Or
(ii) FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills or Healthcare Support
Or
(iii) A relevant Healthcare qualification
Or
(iv) Be currently employed as an Attendant, Multi-Task or a comparable role and be
willing to undertake a QQI/FET Level 5 programme in Health Service Skills or
equivalent.
And
(b) Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.
2. Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
3. Character

- Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in a healthcare setting
- Possess Patient Moving & Manual Handling Course or be willing to undertake same
- Possess Basic Food Hygiene Course or be willing to undertake same

· Flexibility as regards working hours as the post is 24/7 365 days a years, therefore roster will be over nights and days, 7 days a week
