The Role: 

Uisce Éireann IT (UÉIT) provides IT services and support to the wider Uisce Éireann business, and across the Local Authority user base. IT Operations is responsible for all operational run activities across Applications, Operational Technology, Service Management and Infrastructure. 

Reporting to the Networking & Security Team Lead, the Network & Security Analyst has responsibility for managing and supporting various aspects of IT infrastructure within Uisce Éireann.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing technical support administration on Linux (RHEL), VMware, and HP-UX systems, Microsoft Exchange and Windows 
  • Performing hardware implementation, configuration, tuning and administration of development/test and production environments (VM, Microsoft Exchange and Windows environments) 
  • Performing operating systems implementation, configuration, tuning and administration 
  • Performing hardware implementation, configuration, tuning and administration of a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
  • Configuration, tuning and administration of VBlock infrastructure 
  • Performing HP-UX and Linux (RHEL) operating systems implementation, configuration, tuning and administration 
  • Administering of file and SAN (HP and VEC) management 
  • Administering of HP-UX, Linux and VMware backups, using HP Data Protector and image level and point-in-time snapshots of VM servers 
  • Administering log-in scripts in Linux and HP-UX environments 
  • Performing day to day management of security operations activities, including managing firewalls and virus protection programmes, IDS & IPS management, incident management, websense management and LB management. Administering virus scanning and intrusion prevention 
  • Administering of remote access via Citrix and Netmotion including security 
  • Administering of file management, SAN management and Active Directory 
  • Administering of Windows backups, image level and point-in-time snapshots of VM servers 
  • Administering of Uisce Éireann policy and log-in scripts 
  • To function within a highly skilled team and lead in hardware, operating systems, virtualisation and infrastructure requirements within Uisce Éireann 
  • Performance/process monitoring of Linux and HP-UX systems 
  • Patching of Linux and HP-UX environments / VM and Windows environments 
  • General IT network LAN/WAN/WLAN 
  • Performing support and implementation for IPT/UC hardware and applications 
  • Cisco IPT (IP Telephony) and video conferencing implementation and support 
  • Cisco IT network infrastructure implementation, configuration, tuning and administration
  • Data Centre and IT structured cabling management 
  • User support and training
  • Develop infrastructure standards and ensure these are adhered to where required 
  • Provide technical advice and recommendations within the technical infrastructure area that may impact the achievement of Uisce Éireann objectives
  • Determine the most appropriate hardware, operating systems and network configuration for Uisce Éireann 
  • The ability to schedule work based on the resources available, priorities of the business and the timescale of the project 
  • Liaising with external resource/service providers 
  • Keeping up to date on IT issues and developments 
  • Provide out-of-hours cover as part of the Standby Rota and participate in out of hours work as required 
  • Other duties as required from time to time

General Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business, including but not limited to; 
  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards. 
  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives. 
  • Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Information Systems or IT discipline with a minimum of five years’ experience 
  • At least five years’ working experience with Linux (RHEL), and HP-UX 
  • At least five years’ working experience with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Exchange and VMware in a virtualised environment 
  • At least three years’ working experience with VMware
  • Experience in infrastructure design and development for large scale business systems 
  • Experience in VDI environments is desirable 
  • Experience in Vblock infrastructure is desirable
  • Experience in HP infrastructure (SAN, Serves, Blade Chassis etc.) is desirable
  • Experience in HP Data protector is desirable
  • Experience in infrastructure design and development for large scale business systems 
  • Experience implementing innovative IT technical solutions 
  • Experience implementing innovative IT technical solutions 
  • Experience in Juniper SSG, Cisco ASA, Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco CSS and F5 BigIP load balancer is desirable 
  • Experience in a Cisco IP Telephony system is desirable. 
  • Experience in a Cisco Telepresence Management System is desirable 
  • An understanding of firewalls, Intrusion detection, prevention products and methodology as well as various user authentication products and methodologies including Microsoft Active Directory 
  • Experience in Palo Alto firewalls is desirable 
  • Operating in a utility company or in a regulated industry would be an advantage 
  • Ability to align technical advances in the industry with the Irish Water IT Strategy 
  • Ability to participate in the support and maintenance of Irish Water IT systems with 3rd Party Contractors, Business Partners and service agents 
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Knowledge of industry-standard methodologies, tools and environments 
  • An understanding of general business practices and processes 
  • Ability to deal comfortably with non-technical users
  • Experience with identifying improvement opportunities, generating ideas and implementing solutions 
  • Enthusiastic self-starter that has excellent analytical skills with the ability to identify and analyse problems, propose potential improvements, and implement these solutions 
  • Ability to set up ongoing procedures to collect and review information 
  • Proactively identifying new areas of learning and using newly gained knowledge or skills on the job 
  • Ability to set own high standards of performance and delivering desired results
