NSO And CHI Healthcare Simulation Fellow

Purpose of role:

The purpose of this post is to lead, coordinate and evaluate the simulation components of the NCHI commissioning phase. The Fellow will support the design and delivery of translational simulations that test new pathways, teams and technologies, support data collection and analysis, and contribute to research on commissioning and safety.

In parallel, they will complete a structured fellowship to build advanced competencies in simulation education, systems-focused debriefing, leadership and research. This creates a future simulation leader and a sustainable pipeline of expertise for CHI, aligned with national NSO priorities and the long-term needs of paediatric care.

The Fellow will be embedded in the CHI’s simulation activities (or the simulation activities of a local simulation facility) and embedded in simulation leadership activities as part of the NSO team enabling comprehensive professional development. Part of their role in the NSO will be to drive interprofessional simulation implementation across regions and to contribute to strategic goals aligned with the National Simulation Strategy (2025 – 2028)

This fellowship aims to build technical mastery in simulation-based commissioning and strategic leadership capability to advance simulation across the Irish health service. It is underpinned by a competency-based learning framework with defined outputs.

National Oversight: HSE National Simulation Office

Local Oversight: Professional Unit in CHI from which the Fellow is seconded

Research Oversight: The Irish Centre for Applied Patient Safety and Simulation (ICAPSS),School of Medicine (University of Galway)

Essential Criteria:

• Nursing, midwife, HSCP or NCHD background.

• A minimum of 4 years post-qualification.

• Simulation and/or health professions education experience preferred.

• Registered with CORU/NMBI/IMC as appropriate.

Desirable, but not essential

• Currently employed by CHI.
