*This post is based in County Kerry and is offered on a 0.2 WTE basis (equivalent to one day per week), with responsibility for supporting GP practices throughout County Kerry as part of the national Screening Training and Education Service.

The National Screening Service (NSS) delivers four national population-based screening programmes – for cervical, breast and bowel screening and for detecting sight-threatening retinopathy in people with diabetes.

Our programmes focus on looking for early signs of disease in healthy people, so that we can:

• detect health issues early
• help prevent disease
• ensure that anyone who does develop the disease being screened for has the best chance of early, more effective treatment
• reduce people’s risk of developing a disease or its complications
• support people in making informed decisions about their health

The Screening Training and Education Unit services General Practitioners, Practice Nurses, Colposcopy Gynae, Midwifery Staff and Public Health Nurses.

The team is led by the Education and Training Manager and is supported by two Senior Screening Training Coordinators, two administrative staff, and a panel of eight Clinical Trainers who deliver training on a per diem basis, as required.

This is a national service, providing education and training support across all 26 counties of Ireland. While the service operates nationally, this post is based in County Kerry and has a specific local remit to support GP practices throughout County Kerry. The post holder will work closely with GP practices and primary care stakeholders across the county, acting as a key point of contact to support training, education initiatives, service development, and stakeholder engagement at a local level.

The post of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (Clinical Trainer) has a pivotal role:

• In providing a quality educational and supportive service to Trainees on the Cervical Screening education programmes
• In enhancing outcomes for clients by assessment of standards of cervical screening providers
• The planning and implementation of appropriate education and professional development
• In the co-ordination and management of up-to-date educational/clinical programmes for relevant staff
• The Clinical Trainer will provide clinical support to the education and Training programmes in Cervical Check
• The Clinical Trainer may also provide support for the other programmes in the National Screening Service as required.
