The National Screening Service (NSS) delivers four national population-based screening programmes – for cervical, breast and bowel screening and for detecting sight-threatening retinopathy in people with diabetes.

Our programmes focus on looking for early signs of disease in healthy people, so that we can:

  • detect health issues early
  • help prevent disease
  • ensure that anyone who does develop the disease being screened for has the best chance of early, more effective treatment
  • reduce people’s risk of developing a disease or its complications
  • support people in makinginformed decisions about their health

About the role:

The position of Grade VII Unit Manager encompasses both managerial and administrative responsibilities.

To ensure the provision of a high-quality administration, operations, facilities management and customer care service within the clinical unit and associated mobile units.

To provide management support to the Business Manager, Clinical Director, Consultants and other managers within the BreastCheck Programme Management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the BreastCheck unit and mobile units, ensuring efficient coordination of services, resources and client administration.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and review of operational and service plans in conjunction with the Business Manager and local management team.
  • Manage facilities, budgets and contracts, ensuring good governance and compliance with HSE financial and operational policies while optimising technology and resources to enhance service delivery.
  • Lead, supervise and support administrative and operational staff to ensure effective performance, wellbeing and teamwork.
  • Promote a positive working environment, addressing performance and training needs through the HSE Performance Achievement process.
  • Encourage professional development, clear communication and accountability within the team.

The person:

(i) Have satisfactory experience as a clerical officer the HSE, TUSLA, other statutory

health agencies, or a body which provides services on behalf of the HSE under

Section 38 of the Health Act 2004

OR

(ii) Have obtained a pass (Grade D) in at least five subjects from the approved list of

subjects in the Department of Education Leaving Certificate Examination, including

Mathematics and English or Irisp. Candidates should have obtained at least Grade

C on higher level papers in three subjects in that examination.

OR

(iii) Have completed a relevant examination at a comparable standard in any

equivalent examination in another jurisdiction.

OR

(iv) Hold a comparable and relevant third level qualification of at least level 6 on the

National Qualifications Framework maintained by Qualifications and Quality

Ireland, (QQI)

And

  • Significant experience in Human Resources, Team management and development including managing staff.
  • Significant experience in implementing and managing change or quality service improvement projects
  • Significant experience of operating within a complex planning and programme management role and/or function within a multi stakeholder environment
  • Significant experience in analysing and collating large volumes of data and producing summary reports.
