Occupational Therapist, Senior, University Hospital
Cork University Hospital (CUH) is the largest university teaching hospital in Ireland and is the only level 1 trauma centre in the Republic of Ireland – an accreditation given because of the very wide range of specialties delivered by the hospital – It services a wide range of specialties including Neuroscience, Cardiac Service, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Renal, Internal Medicine, Vascular, Ophthalmology, Urology, Plastic Surgery, Maxillary-Facial, Paediatrics, Intensive Care, Oncology, Haematology, Burns.
CUH is the tertiary referral centre for the HSE Southern area, and the supra regional area of Limerick, Clare, Tipperary, Waterford and Kilkenny. CUH therefore acts as a regional centre for secondary and tertiary care for the catchments population of 550,000 served by the HSE Southern area and a supra-regional centre for a total a population of 1.1 million.
The Occupational Therapy service also provides weekend and on-call services under specific criteria. The postholder will be required to participate in this. Flexibility will be required with regard to the working week as the post holder may be required to give classes/cover clinics in the evening and at weekends.
There are currently a number of permanent whole-time vacancies available in Occupational Therapy Senior in the areas of
· Speciality Care Area A: Acute Medicine/ Care of the Elderly/General Medicine (1 x whole time post)
· Speciality Care Area B: Frailty Intervention Team in Emergency Department (3 x whole time posts)
The successful candidate(s) will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of their relevant service, acute medicine, or frailty intervention service in the emergency department, and the supervision of senior and staff grade occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants and students as required.
The Acute Medicine post will be based in the acutemedical decision unit and acute medical assessment unit providing timely assessment for admission avoidance and early dischargedealing with both inpatient and outpatient-basedintervention.
The F.I.T. post will be based in the Emergency Department on the Frailty Intervention Team providing timely assessment for admission avoidance and early discharge dealing with both inpatient and outpatient-based intervention.
The successful candidate will work in conjunction with other team members in delivering an efficient service to meet the needs of the service user group and the objectives of the organisation.
The Senior Occupational Therapist will be responsible for the provision of a high-quality Occupational Therapy service and will carry out clinical and educational duties as required.
The Frailty Intervention Team Service will be expanding into a 7 day service and staff will be required to work evening and weekends and staff will be rostered from Monday to Sunday, 8am-8pm. Flexibility will be required with regard to the working week as the post holder may be required to cover clinics in the evening and at weekends.
