Meet the team
The Lab team is responsible for producing and commissioning video content that is made specifically for the 18–44-year-old audience, focusing on comedy and entertainment formats. Previous series include The Traitors Ireland: Uncloaked, Good Boy and Ireland’s Perfect Pubs.Content is created, packaged, and published to RTÉ’s video products, with a focus on RTÉ Player and RTÉ’s YouTube channels and oftentimes, RTÉ Television channels.
We are looking for an experienced Content Leader with a background in comedy and/or entertainment production and expertise in delivering high quality digital content for a fixed term contract of 12 months.
Reporting to the Head of RTÉ Player, the Online Content Manager will be an experienced TV/Digital content maker with a passion for Irish TV and culture and a strong background in the comedy and entertainment genres. You will lead a team of content creators and content co-ordinators in ‘The Lab’ working closely with colleagues within RTÉ to deliver high impact content for RTÉ Player/Television and YouTube. The successful candidate will work within a dynamic, fast-paced environment, collaborating with stakeholders from across the ‘Video’ teams as well as with product, technology, design, marketing, audience insights and commercial.
About the role:
Creatively and editorially lead the team through all stages of production from idea/development to publish
Initiate and develop original and distinctive programme ideas with a particular emphasis on Comedy and Entertainment formats
Manage and motivate a small but agile team of content creatives delivering high quality comedy and entertainment content for RTÉ Player/RTÉ Television, currently publishing 8 hours of video content per annum
Ensure the successful delivery of a production to the agreed final specification, to the highest editorial standards, on time and within budget
Create and deliver on the content plan that is aligned with RTÉ Video and RTÉ Player content strategy and regularly track/report on KPIs
Manage the content budget alongside colleagues in finance including budget drafting
Lead the online commissioning of original video content for RTÉ Player platforms including working closely with stakeholders in Video including Commissioning Editors, Legal, HR, Finance, Marketing, Social, Communications and Commercial
Responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of all internal and external productions for The Lab
Ensure all editorial standards and procedures are withheld and all paperwork is present and correct, e.g. Risk Assessments, Commissioning Processes and Procedures, etc
While in production, produce comedy/entertainment formats end to end
Plan out episode structure and develop series’ tone of voice
Work closely with HR and Finance on hiring and contracts
Scriptwriting comedy/entertainment scripts
VT/Edit producing
Producing the presenter(s) – script meetings, briefings, contracts
Use analytics to track performance of published programmes. Monitor KPIs (streams, time spent, completion rates, device splits)
About you:
Significant experience in producing or content creation of high-quality broadcast/streaming video content
Third-level qualification in Multimedia, Journalism, Communications, or a related discipline, with proven experience applying these skills in a professional setting
Experience in leading and motivating a team
Experience in budget management
Be comfortable working in a pressurised environment such as single camera scripted comedy or unscripted entertainment formats as well as studio productions
Previous experience of producing innovative and creative programme ideas and be capable of originating and developing strong production plans that can deliver ideas within budget and resources
A thorough knowledge and understanding of RTÉ’s programme-making standards and guidelines and have strong editorial skills and judgement
Excellent communication skills to deal with a variety of people and stakeholders at all levels and to work effectively as a team member
Ability to establish effective short- and long-term relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
A keen understanding of social media with an enthusiasm for finding new comedy talent and helping develop upcoming presenters, comedians, contributors
Highly organised, with the ability to plan and manage multiple productions simultaneously under tight deadlines
Nice to have:
Background in comedy production/scriptwriting
Background in creating video content for 18–44-year-olds
Social Media expertise

This appointment will be made on a 1-year fixed purpose full time contract basis to start in June 2026, on the Manager Grade 3 salary range from €51,039 gross per annum to €85,647 gross per annum.
