Operating Department Practitioner

Full-time (37.5 hours per week) | Permanent |

Candidate Criteria:

Qualifications

· Registered ODP qualification and registered with HCPC.

· Peri-operative Qualification (Desirable)

Experience

· Must have 2 years post registration experience in an acute hospital setting.

· Up to date knowledge of clinical theory and best practice at a level relevant to number of years qualified.

· Demonstrate a good understanding of surgical procedures.

· Experience with an Electronic Health Record (Desirable)

· Previous Peri Operative experience (Desirable)

The Purpose of This Role:

The Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical or anesthetic procedures. Working as an integral part of the multidisciplinary theatre team, the ODP ensures patient safety, dignity, and comfort at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate operating room patients and plans, implement and document clinical nursing care.
  • Complete patient documentation fully and correctly, ensuring legible.
  • Promote patient focused approach to care in collaboration with the health care team.
  • Be an effective member of the surgical team either as a scrub, circulating or anesthetic practitioner, demonstrating effective leadership qualities and communication skills.
  • Demonstrating safe and effective infection control practices.
  • Ensure all checking processes are carried out correctly and thoroughly and are documented, as per hospital policy.
  • Work with the Surgeons to ensure their specific surgical requirements are met, to include set up of the theatre, patient positioning, instrumentation and equipment.
  • Co-operate with ward staff in sending for patients to the operating department and transferring patients to the Recovery Unit.
