ALS Life Sciences Ltd are seeking an Operations Manager for our laboratory business in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. As Operations Manager, you will lead the strategic and day‑to‑day delivery of high‑quality, compliant laboratory services while driving sustainable growth. You’ll shape the business plan, optimize performance and pricing, strengthen client relationships, and champion continuous improvement across people, processes, safety, and quality—ensuring our operations align with global and regional strategies and meet all legal requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce and maintain a Strategic Business Plan. Report regularly on progress, providing a Monthly Report with key business updates.

  • Develop the microbiology business strategic plan by assessing technological and financial opportunities.

  • Develop strategies and policies to achieve the company’s future goals.

  • Grow the business through diversification and a robust pricing strategy, identifying higher‑margin opportunities in line with Global vision.

  • Formulate, coordinate, and lead business development initiatives, including target markets, relationship management, and pricing.

  • Build and deepen client relationships to drive retention and cross‑sell value‑added services. Support retention through delivery of KPIs, contract reviews, and day‑to‑day overview of the business performance.

  • Utilise resources to ensure that customer experience is met in terms of delivery performance with a focus on operational and quality excellence.

  • Drive continuous improvement by implementing group initiatives, methodologies, and procedures. Share best practices and roll out improvements across the wider group.

  • Monitor business performance via KPI management and implement improvement actions that positively influence agreed metrics.

  • Lead people management by providing training, mentoring, and coaching as necessary. Deal promptly with issues and ensure that personnel have the appropriate skills to support the business.

  • Determine staffing requirements and oversee the recruitment and training processes, including a suitable succession plan.

  • Ensure Policies and Procedures are fully implemented across the microbiology business.

  • Ensure the Quality Management System is effective and site accreditations are maintained.

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with all relevant legal requirements, submitting Monthly and Annual Compliance Reports as required.

  • Ensure compliance with company safety requirements and continuously improve the safety culture.

  • Support the delivery of the ALS sustainability program.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years experience in a similar role.

  • Hold a scientific degree or have significant experience in a similar role in a food manufacturing business or commercial laboratory.

  • Strong leadership and inter-personal skills, excellent communication, collaboration, and team management.

  • Curious mindset with a focus on technology, innovation, and collaboration.

  • A flexible approach and the desire to achieve continuous improvement.

  • Exceptional organisational skills.

  • Ability to travel with a full driving licence.
