Personal Assistants to Support Independent Living
PERSONAL ASSISTANT'S NEEDED
JOB DESCRIPTION
Áiseanna Tacaíochta (The ÁT Network) are looking to hire Personal Assistants to support a young woman with a disability to live as full and independent life as possible. This will require helping her in all areas of life including personal care and domestic need while also acting as a support in the social and day to day activities of this young woman.
The ÁT Network are a non-profit organisation who work alongside the HSE to support people with disabilities (who we refer to as Leaders) all over the country to live a self-directed and independent life. In this case, the service is supported and ran locally by the Leader’s family.
One full-time and one part-time position available. Although the hours are fixed, there is potential for flexibility for the right candidate. The successful candidate must be okay with dogs as the household are dog owners and must also hold a clean driver’s licence. The successful candidate would need access to their own vehicle as they would be driving the Leader in it. Expenses will be covered for this.
Location: Castlebridge Wexford
Hours: Full time and part-time position
Pay: Competitive- depending on experience
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Leader with personal hygiene care, including assistance with taking a shower/ bathing/ combing hair.
- Assisting with toileting.
- Provide effective personal care and support in a way which maintains the privacy, dignity and safety of the Leader at all times.
- Preparation and cooking of meals.
- Assisting with feeding the Leader.
- Ensure the Leader receives sufficient intake of fluid through her bottle during the day.
- Open and honest communication with the Leader’s family.
- Light domestic duties- like ensuring the Leader’s room and bathroom is clean and tidy.
- Engagement in social activities with the Leader.
- Accept and carry out all instructions diligently.
Essential Criteria:
- Fetac Level 5 in Health or Social Care or equivalent experience
- Person-centred
- Ability to act on own initiative and consult with the team where appropriate
- Be eligible and legal to work in Ireland.
- Be fluent in the English language.
- Hold a clean driver’s licence and willing to drive the Leader to where they need to go.
- Willing to complete Garda Vetting, Reference Checks and Mandatory Training Sessions.
- Being comfortable around dogs.
Desirable Qualities
- Experience working in the disability sector.
- Experience of supporting someone with Epilepsy
- An understanding of the Independent Living model.
