Personal Care Assistant

We are currently seeking a highly-motivated Personal Care Assistant to join our Adult Respite team in Arklow, Co. Wicklow.

Contract Type: This is a relief contract.

Salary Scale: €30,163 - €36,502 pro rata per annum.

This pay scale is subject to increases in 2024 in accordance with the recent WRC interim agreement (Ref CAM -100101-22) towards enhanced pay adjustments in Section 39 organisations.

Overview of the Post:

The role of the Personal Care Assistant is to support in the delivery of high quality respite service, including assisting Service Owners in their personal needs whilst attending their respite break, and to access all centre activities.

Overview of Duties & Responsibilities:

· To facilitate the Service Owner to identify, plan and implement their respite goals, and support them to actively participate in the activities of their choice.

· To follow the Service Owners’ bespoke care plan to ensure their independence, comfort and health.

· Identify, plan and implement social supports for Service Owners.

· To assist the Service Owner with all activities of daily living and with therapy programmes as required.

· To support Service Owners in relation to the administration of their medication in line with policy.

· To perform general housekeeping duties including cooking, shopping, cleaning, and looking after Service Owner’s clothes and effects.

· To observe and respect the confidentiality of the Service Owners and to safeguard the privacy, dignity and values of the Service Owner.

· To be a key worker for the designated cohort of Service Owners.

· Assist in driving and escorting Service Owners during their respite break, using the service vehicle.

· Preserving at all times the professional nature of the relationship with Service Owners.

· To promote and safeguard the wellbeing and interests of the Service Owner at all times.

· Ability to receive and provide a handover at the start/end of each shift.

· To perform all duties and tasks in line with Enable Ireland guidelines policies, and training given.

· To immediately report, following Enable Ireland policy, any accidents, incidents or dangerous occurrences.

· To undertake all duties as delegated/allocated to you by the PIC/Team Leader.

· To participate in all team meetings and mandatory/specialised training.

· To be courteous and professional at all times.

· Ensure that daily records for Service Owners are completed in accordance with policy, and are correctly collated and filed to the Service Owner file and database.

The successful candidate will have:

Essential Criteria:

· FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Social Care or relevant health related area

· 1 years’ experience in providing personal care to adults.

· Full clean driving license.

· Eligible to work in the State.

Desirable Criteria:

· Experience working with adults and families with physical/sensory/intellectual disabilities.

· Experience in driving people with disabilities on public roads.

· Experience working with adults within the community.

· Experience with PEG feeding and catheterisation.
