PURPOSE OF POST

The purpose of this role is to assist the pharmacist in providing excellent pharmaceutical care to the patients of Clontarf Hospital. The pharmacy technician will make sure the pharmacy runs efficiently and will assist the pharmacists in their day to day tasks while providing exceptional patient care in an environment where quality, respect, caring and compassion are at the centre of all we do.

We are looking for one full time pharmacy technician but will consider two part time pharmacy technicians.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Pharmaceutical Technician will:

  • Process orders delivered to the Pharmacy Department in accordance with procedures and documentation requirements and having regard to special requirements such as maintenance of cold chain and handling of specialised products.
  • Operate falsified medicines (FMD) directive scanning on receipt of orders.
  • Top-up ward stock as required.
  • Report shortages to Chief Pharmacist in a timely manner.
  • Check and document expiry dates of all incoming stock and bring short-dated stock to the attention of other pharmacy staff in a timely manner.
  • Identify stock required for to-follow orders and leave for dispensing.
  • Ensure that pharmacy shelves are neat, tidy and fully stocked and that stock is rotated.
  • Carry out stock checks and date-checks as required.
  • Ensure that pharmacy has sufficient stores of bottles, boxes, packaging materials etc.
  • Pre-pack stock for wards.
  • Assist with processing of returns from wards as required for recycling or destruction.
  • Assist with destruction of pharmaceuticals as required.
  • Record and respond to telephone calls and messages.
  • Is self-motivated and committed towards quality service provision.
  • Can motivate others.
  • Has an inherent person-centred philosophy which is respectful and assertive towards clients, staff and other contacts.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team.
  • Is honest and trustworthy.
  • Is computer literate.
  • All posts in Clontarf Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service. Therefore, the post holder may be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
