Mental Health Services span the care continuum from prevention, promotion and Intervention to rehabilitation for people with mental health or illness and their families. Services are provided in acute and psychiatric in patient settings, day hospitals, Out-patient department and community settings.

The HSE has created 6 new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing hospital and community care for the people in that area. HSE South West was established on 3rd March and the transition to the new structures will be taking place throughout 2025, as a result, locations and reporting relationships may change into the future.

The Pharmacy department is located in St. Stephen’s hospital campus which delivers services regulated by both the Mental Health Commission and the Health Information and Quality Authority. Settings delivering Mental Health Care include Acute Admission, Rehabilitation, and Residential Services. The Service also delivers care for older adults in a setting under the regulation of HIQA The Pharmacy Department provides pharmacy services to Eist Linn (Child and Adolescent Mental Health) in-patient unit based in Bessborough, Cork and operates a Clozapine service for a catchment area of Cork North IHA.

The Pharmacy Department provides accurate and independent information and education about medicines to other healthcare professionals, service users and carers. Clinical and dispensing activities are provided to facilitate the management of medicines by our service users. We also provide support to ensure that medicines management resources are used cost effectively within Cork North IHA.

The team structure within the service comprises of a multidisciplinary team including: consultant psychiatrists, pharmacists, nurses, doctors, health and social services professionals, clerical administration and general support staff. St Stephen’s Hospital is a teaching hospital and staff include trainee mental health nurses, trainee GPs, medical interns and medical registrars.
