The role

The post holder appointed will carry out mechanical maintenance and repair work as part of a multidisciplinary team comprising engineers, technicians, general operatives and supporting specialist contractors.

The post holder will deliver a prompt, efficient cost effective customer focused service in a team environment., to achieve and maintain the standards required for Wexford General Hospital, in relation to:

· Maintenance of heating and cooling systems, Meduim Temperature Hot Water Systems, Low Pressure Hot Water systems, clean air systems, air handling units, hot and cold water services, water treatment services, RO plant, water softener plant, catering equipment, refrigeration plant, cook-chill equipment, laundry equipment, medical gases plant, oil storage systems, natural gas systems, LPG systems.

· Maintenancof central sterilisation services equipment, endoscopy decontamination equipment.

· Liaison with specialist maintenance of patient equipment.

· Maintenance of rainwater systems, soils and waste systems.

· Maintenance of waste management: water, clinical, domestic and recycling.

The person

Candidates must meet the following Eligibility Criteria by the closing date:

1. Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

(i) Possess a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) (NFQ) Level 6 (or higher) Advanced Certificate Craft - Plumbing (or equivalent qualification).

Or

(ii) Possess the National Craft Certificate issued by FETAC.

Or

(iii) Possess the Senior Trade Certificate issued by Department of Education.

Or

(iv) Possess a Level 3 Technical/Trade qualification or equivalent issued by City & Guilds, London.

And

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite technical knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability for the proper discharge of the office.

2. Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

3. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good

character.

Post specific requirements

· Demonstrate depth and breadth of post qualification experience in industrial Plumbing / mechanical maintenance in a large scale and complex buildings and health care settings, as relevant to the role, including extensive knowledge and experience of maintenance procedures relating to safe operation and maintenance.

· Have successfully undertaken the Solas Safe Pass Health and Safety Awareness Programme, or equivalent approved training programme.

· As this post will involve the driving of HSE owned vehicles, the successful candidate is required to Be the holder of a full clean B Driving Licence. Submit a copy of licence with completed Application form.

Other specific requirements

· Access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role, as this post will involve frequent travel between sites.

· The post holder will be required to participate in emergency call outs and Candidates should live within a reasonable travel time of the hospital, such that emergencies can be responded to within a reasonable period of time.

· The post holder will be required to carry a HSE mobile phone or bleep during working hours or other aids of communication as required.
