Purpose of the Role

The post holder will be working within the neurology department initially at CHI Temple Street Hospital and subsequently within the combined neurology department following the move to the new NCH. The post holder will provide a highly specialist neuropsychological assessment service including the critical elements of clinical formulation, diagnosis and treatment. The post holder will also provide input regarding neuropsychological rehabilitation and intervention to children and adolescents, both inpatients and outpatients, attending the neurology department with the following conditions:

  • Complex epilepsy and epilepsy surgery
  • Neuro-inflammatory conditions
  • Neurovascular conditions
  • Neurodegenerative conditions
  • Complex neuropsychiatric conditions

Essential Criteria:

Each candidate must have at the latest date of application:

  • Hold a recognised University degree or diploma obtained with first or second class honours in which psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject or hold a recognised qualification equivalent to above.
  • Hold a relevant post-graduate professional qualification in Psychology recognised by the Psychological Society of Ireland.
  • Or

    Hold a postgraduate professional psychology qualification validated by the Department of Health and Children. Applicants should refer to the Dept. of Health & Children regulations on the Employment of Psychologists in the Health Services, as well as, the PSI Guidelines on Post Graduate Training & Qualifications. Candidates requiring validation to work in Ireland must provide proof of same at the time of application.

  • Hold a recognised post-graduate qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology which includes additional specialist post-doctoral training in brain injury and neurological illness and have gained substantial experience in applied neuropsychological assessment and treatment.
  • Be eligible for a Principal Specialist grade i.e. have a minimum of five years clinical experience at Senior Grade with a significant proportion of this experience in clinical neuropsychology, in addition to time spent in postgraduate professional training.
  • Have experience working as a Paediatric Clinical Neuropsychologist with children and young people with neurological conditions.
  • Have experience of working with children, young people with neurological conditions and their families.
  • Have experience of performing specialist neuropsychological assessment with children and adolescents with complex neuropsychological needs in acute/chronic neurological illness preferably in a paediatric setting.
  • Experience of formal neuropsychology supervision of Staff grade and/or Senior Psychologists and/or Psychologists in training.
