Process Technician
Overview of the role:
The Process Technician will carry out the required operational duties, in conjunction with the Plant Manager, to ensure optimum plant performance and reliability.
The role will involve effective communication and interaction with management, team members, clients, and suppliers so as to ensure that deliverables and company goals are achieved. In executing the role it is paramount that Health & Safety, Ethical and Quality requirements, both legislative and company-specific, are fully respected and taken account of.
Duties of the Role include;
Perform a variety of basic and advanced chemical, biological and bacteriological tests on wastewater, solids and soils for facility assigned including chloride, conductivity, alkalinity, pH, temperature, total hardness, turbidity, chlorine residual, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, solids
Carry out laboratory sampling and analysis
Involvement in process optimisation
Prepare timely and accurate reporting of activities to management
Liaise and interact with the Plant Manager, O&M operatives and client Collect samples of wastewater, sludge, receiving water and processing waste in accordance with established laboratory procedures for analysis;
Prepare glassware and equipment for laboratory use and perform lab housekeeping duties
Perform mathematical calculations and statistical analysis of test results
Involvement in process commissioning
Provision of coaching and support to Operation Technicians to improve their process knowledge and problem solving skills
Prepare and produce the MSR monthly reports
Operate, maintain and perform routine calibrations on test equipment
Responsible for safe and documented disposal of spent laboratory chemicals
Required skills for this role;
Diploma/ Degree in Chemical / Environmental Engineering or relevant higher level degree
Knowledge of utilities and waste water treatment plant maintenance
Previous experience (1-3 years) in industrial process operations would be a distinct advantage
Familiarity with standard laboratory procedures
Good understanding of quality, environmental and safety management systems
Awareness and understanding of the regulatory aspects within the waste water industry
