St. Michael’s House is a community based voluntary organisation founded by parents in 1955 which provides facilities and services to over 1,500 people with intellectual disabilities and their families in Ireland throughout Dublin city and county. St. Michael’s House has been a leading provider of high-quality, person-centred services for adults with intellectual disabilities for over 70 years. We provide services in three regions: North Region (Ballymun); North Region (Coolock); South Region (Goatstown).
About the role:
Reporting to the Designated Officer, the purpose of the Safeguarding Social Worker role is to provide professional social work leadership and intervention in relation to safeguarding concerns, ensuring that adults at risk and children are protected from harm through rights-based, person-centred, proportionate and legally compliant safeguarding practice.
They will have primary responsibility for the HSE Safeguarding Portal, providing professional oversight, quality assurance, coordination and governance of safeguarding referrals and organisational safeguarding responses, ensuring compliance with HSE safeguarding requirements, rights-based practice, timely escalation and effective interagency safeguarding management.
The role will be part of the Office of the Designated Officer, that sits with the Director of Health, Safety and Risk. It sits at the intersection of safeguarding, human rights, risk management, advocacy, social justice, capacity and consent, and interagency protection systems. It is a critical control point for safeguarding governance. St Michaels House has a zero-tolerance approach to abuse.

Essential Qualifications for this position:
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Be registered on the Social Workers Register
maintained by the Social Workers Registration Board at CORU
And
(ii) Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and
professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office
And
(iii) Provide proof of Statutory Registration on the Social Workers Register maintained by the
Social Workers Registration Board at CORU before a contract of employment can be
issued.
And
(IV) Provide proof of a valid Irish Driving Licence
Desirable Qualifications for this position:
- A qualification or formal training in Safeguarding
- Training in Safeguarding, Positive Behaviour Support, or Restrictive Practices
- Have experience of working in Disability Services
- Have experience of supporting individuals and staff members with Safeguarding.
Due to the scale, geographical dispersion and the operational nature of St. Michael’s House services, many locations are not accessible by public transport within required timeframes. Access to independent transport is therefore essential to enable timely inspections, incident response and compliance with health and safety legislation.

Salary Scale: Successful candidates will be paid in line with the June 2026 HSE revised consolidated Social Worker pay scale (Point 1 € 51,127 to € 73,811 after LSIs per annum based on working a 35 hour week).
Should you have no prior public sector experience you will be placed on point 1 of the pay-scale above.
