Job Purpose

To provide a safe, child-centred environment and experience for children in the context of the service in which you work, appropriate to the role.

Core Job Requirements
  • Provide a safe and appropriate environment for children participating in the service.
  • Ensure all children attending the service receive appropriate supervision.
  • Support children to play and interact positively with other children.
  • Remain vigilant for signs of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse or neglect, and any concerns regarding the welfare of children.
  • Immediately report any concerns to the child's Key Worker and the Designated Person, in accordance with Barnardos Child Protection Policy.
  • Record concerns promptly and accurately.
  • Gather information, compile statistics, and prepare reports as required, including administration of databases where appropriate.
  • Supervise students and volunteers where necessary, ensuring they are aware of all Barnardos policies, and complete placement reports where appropriate.
Requirements Specific to this Post
  • Specifically support children attending the Early Years service.
  • Work across both the Brighter Futures Preschool and Early Years HighScope service.
  • Cover staff breaks and leave.
  • Support staff in delivering a high-quality Early Years service.
  • Deliver Barnardos' Best Start programme for children under five years of age.

  • Commitment to providing a high-quality service to children.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Awareness of confidentiality and the ability to deal with sensitive issues, including child protection concerns.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
Experience
  • Minimum of six months' experience working with young children (essential).
  • Relevant voluntary work may also be considered.
Qualifications
  • Recognised qualification (minimum Level 5 on the QQI/FETAC National Framework of Qualifications) approved under the Early Years (Pre-school) Regulations.
Additional Information

The post holder will be based at the Brighter Futures Centres, Knocknaheeny, but may be required to work at other locations within the Cork area in line with organisational needs.

Salary: €20,509 – €24,929 DOE (pro-rated for 26 hours).
