Project Manager, Audience Development & Stakeholder Engagement
The National Gallery of Ireland is seeking to recruit a Project Manager on a two-year fixed-term contract. This role sits within the Audience Development and Stakeholder Engagement (AD&SE) pillar and plays a key role in delivering a number of strategic initiatives, including the project management of the redevelopment of the Gallery’s website, upgrades to the Gallery’s café and catering facilities, and an organisational rebrand.
The Project Manager will support the delivery of high-profile, cross-functional projects that enhance the Gallery’s visitor experience, strengthen the Gallery’s identity, and improve digital and operational services. The role will work closely with the Head of AD&SE and senior stakeholders across the organisation, as well as external suppliers and delivery partners, to ensure projects are delivered effectively, on time, and within budget.
Reporting to the Head of Audience Development & Stakeholder Engagement, or their nominated deputy, the Project Manager will:
- Lead end-to-end project planning, including scope definition, timelines, milestones, resource allocation, and risk management.
- Coordinate cross-functional teams: Communications, Commercial, Visitor Experience, Development, Education, Exhibitions, Collections, Library & Archives, Design, Web Services and leadership—to ensure alignment and smooth execution.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all project communications, ensuring stakeholders are informed, engaged, and aligned with project goals.
- Translate business objectives into actionable project plans, ensuring the website redevelopment and organisational rebrand support the Gallery’s strategic priorities and user/visitor expectations.
- Develop and manage budgets and timelines, tracking progress, controlling scope, and proactively addressing delays or blockers.
- Oversee quality assurance, reviewing deliverables for brand consistency, UX standards, accessibility, and technical accuracy.
- Facilitate decision-making, escalating issues when needed and ensuring timely approvals to maintain project momentum.
- Identify and mitigate risks, anticipating challenges and implementing solutions before they impact delivery.
- Ensure project documentation is maintained and reporting delivered - including procurement, status updates, dashboards, meeting notes, and post launch evaluations.
- Drive continuous improvement, capturing lessons learned and optimising processes for future digital and brand initiatives
The successful candidate will have:
- A third-level qualification in project management, business, digital, marketing, communications, or a related discipline
- Proven experience in delivering end-to-end projects in a complex, cross-functional environments (e.g. website and branding in visitor attractions)
- Experience working with external suppliers, agencies, or vendors, including procurement, contract oversight, and performance management
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to define scope, manage timelines, control budgets, and deliver against milestones
- Professional project management certification (e.g. PRINCE2, PMP, Agile/Scrum) is desirable
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders across different functions, ensuring alignment and clear communication throughout project delivery
- Proven ability to translate strategic objectives into structured, actionable project plans
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to anticipate risks, manage dependencies, and resolve issues proactively
- Experience using project management tools and reporting systems (e.g. dashboards, status reports, project plans) to track progress and inform stakeholders
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality assurance, including user experience, brand consistency, accessibility, and delivery standards
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within tight deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior stakeholders, internal teams, and external partners
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and take ownership of delivery
- A proactive, delivery-focused mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with project management or collaboration tools (e.g. Asana, Jira, Trello, MS Project)
- An interest in cultural organisations, visitor experience, digital engagement, or brand development is desirable
- A positive, professional approach to working in a cultural institution and contributing to public-facing, high-impact projects
- A positive approach to working in the Gallery and the ability to deliver an effective and professional service

Citizenship Requirements
Eligible candidates must be:
1. A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway; or
2. A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or
3. A citizen of Switzerland, pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or
4. A non-EEA citizen who has a Stamp 4 permission or a Stamp 5 permission.
Please note: A 50 TEU permission, which serves as a replacement for Stamp 4EUFAM after Brexit, is considered equivalent to Stamp 4.
To qualify candidates must be eligible by the date of any job offer.
Job Details and Application Information
Grade and Salary: The salary for this position will be in accordance with the Higher Executive Officer (PPC) pay scale, as per the 1 June 2026 pay adjustments. The salary scale for this position is as follows:
€60,029 €61,785 €63,537 €65,286 €67,044 €68,792 €70,547 €73,077 LSI1 €76,546 LSI2
- The starting salary will be at the first point on the scale, €60,029 per annum, or on a higher point of the scale, as appropriate to the successful candidate, if appointed from an existing public sector role (in accordance with Circular 08/2019).
- Candidates should note the National Gallery of Ireland complies with Department of Public Expenditure and Reform regulations and guidelines on Public Service pay and conditions of employment.
Annual Leave: The successful candidate will be entitled to 29 days of annual leave pro rata.
Superannuation:The successful candidate will be placed on the public sector pension scheme.
Benefits:The Gallery provides staff the opportunity to participate in the tax saver and cycle to work schemes.
Duration: Two‑year fixed‑term contract.
Working hours: Full time, 5 days a week - 35 hours per week (net of breaks). Please note, flexibility is required and the successful candidate may be required to work occasional late evenings and weekends. Time off in lieu will be provided for any work outside regular hours.
