Basic Grade Psychologist – Permanent, Full-time

The Basic Grade Psychologist will work as part of the Psychology team, managing both an inpatient and outpatient caseload. The psychologist should be an effective team worker, possess excellent analytical, diagnostic and therapy skills. They must be highly motivated, organised, efficient and flexible with a commitment to providing the highest quality evidenced based mental health care to clients attending Saint John of God University Hospital.

Responsibilities:

· To work under the supervision of a Senior Psychologist.

· To provide cover for fellow Psychologists during absences, to support the delivery of SJOGUH Psychology programsmes for Outpatients and Inpatients.

· To provide a range of specialist psychology services for clients: comprehensive psychological assessment; intervention that includes a range of modalities and therapy models (including CBT, CFT, DBT); report writing; psychological programme implementation; outcome measurement; and review of effectiveness and service user satisfaction.

· To ensure the provision of treatment pathways for outpatients and/or inpatients of the Hospital.

· To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client’s mental health needs, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client’s difficulties, and employing methods of proven efficacy.

· To work as a member of a multidisciplinary team/s as required providing an integrated and co-ordinated service to patients, and to contribute to the integrated care plans.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Have a recognised post graduate qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology and meet the PSI guidelines for employment as a Basic Grade Psychologist in the Irish health Services.
  • Post qualification experience of working in mental health services.
  • Doctorate level knowledge of research design and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of legislation and its implications for clinical practice, incl. safeguarding of vulnerable populations.
  • Evidence of active CPD
