Job Purpose

Dawn Farms is looking for a R&D Technologist to share our passion for innovation, new process, new products, and new ways of thinking. By joining our team, you will use your scientific and technologic expertise to bring taste, health, sustainability, and innovation through food. As part of this particular opportunity, you will play a key role in a high-profile project funded by the Disruptive Technology Innovation Fund which attempts to predict the sensory quality of food products through connected sensors and data analytics. This is an opportunity for growth with exposure to state-of-the-art food research and manufacturing environment, world leading innovation partners and research organisations, and diverse protein product development and applications. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, has a passion for science and technology and a working knowledge within the areas of Chemistry, Nutrition, Process Engineering, Data Analytics, and Food Science. The position will be part of multidisciplinary Science& Innovation team and you will have the opportunity to make an immediate impact in our core scientific understanding, initiate creative product development, and develop into leadership roles. Candidate must have the ability to learn from failures and apply the learnings to deliver results.

Positions: Full-Time, Permanent.

Location: Naas, Co. Kildare, Ireland.

Salary: DOE

Working Hours: 39 hours per week, Mon. - Fri.

Role Responsibilities & Duties

· Designs and executes experimentation/trials in addition to designing new or improved methodologies and procedures to conduct validations and testing during the Develop phase of the Innovation Process.

· Works closely with R&D Project Managers and advises on trial design, timelines, potential hurdles, and trials improvement to achieve technical advances at every trial.

· Generates and effectively communicates data. Maintains electronic databases. Documents results in R&D trial notes.

· Effectively presents data/results to R&D team to drive decisions on projects during the Develop phase.

· Evaluates new ingredients, materials, products, or processes contributing to R&D capability building.

· Develops expertise on process and analytical methodologies. Prepares and updates specifications and SOPs on new or updated R&D capabilities.

· Contributes to key R&D knowledge building and other innovation activities in the Discover phase of the R&D Innovation process.

· Works closely with S&I Technologists to transfer R&D knowledge for industrial scale-up.

· Works with cross-functional departments to drive the execution of collaborative project tasks.

· Advises and guides other team members and other departments on scientific/technical matters, as necessary.

· Maintains safe working environment by practicing and coaching in established safety procedures.

· Regularly required to lift and/or move materials or equipment up to 10kg and occasionally required to lift up to 20kg.

· Willing to travel as required.

Knowledge and Experience to be demonstrated while in role:

· General understanding of food applications and processing.

· Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, or related field.

· Ability to apply principles of logical/scientific thinking to a wide range of problems.

· Ability to operate a variety of standard laboratory and pilot equipment and instrumentation (such as food production equipment, pH meters, balances, etc.).

· Understanding of GMP and Food Safety concepts.

Knowledge and Experience to be demonstrated while in role:

· Ability to read, collect data, analyse, and interpret technical information.

· Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as percent, ppm and basic algebraic equations.

· Good verbal and written communication skills.

· Candidate should be highly motivated and eager to learn.

· Ability to distinguish colours.

· Excellent record keeping and organisational skills with attention to detail.
