Radiographer Clinical Specialist

Purpose of the Post

The Radiographer, Clinical Specialist (Ultrasound) will play a key role in the planning, coordination and management of ultrasound services within St. Dympna’s Hospital Carlow, ensuring streamlined daily operations, the effective use of allocated resources, improved patient flow and enhanced patient experience. The post holder will support service delivery, including participation in cross-cover arrangements where required.

The Clinical Specialist Radiographer will be responsible for delivering a high-quality Ultrasound service, ensuring examinations are performed to an excellent technical standard in a caring, efficient and patient-centred manner, in accordance with established guidelines, protocols, and operational procedures. As an active member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will lead, guide, and supervise radiographic and support staff to ensure the successful operation of the Ultrasound department. The post holder will play an integral role in the training of sonographers and engage with the higher education institutions (HEIs) when required.

Key responsibilities include workflow coordination, quality assurance, staff development, effective communication, and the provision of professional and clinical leadership. The successful candidate must be adaptable, capable of working effectively in a fast-paced and rapidly changing clinical environment and willing to undertake additional duties within the radiology department. The assignment will be primarily to the Radiology Service at St Dympna’s Hospital Carlow with rotation to St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny as per service requirements.

Post Specific Requirements

• Possess a recognised post graduate qualification to a minimum standard of QQI Level 9 or equivalent in Ultrasound Imaging.
• Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in all aspects of General & Vascular Ultrasound to include scanning of Small Parts and Carotids.
• Rotation to St Luke’s Hospital Kilkenny will be required- Transport Required

Other Requirements Specific to the Post

• The post holder must function integrally within the Radiography team and will be rostered to other general/specialised areas to facilitate the provision of Radiology services
• Participate in the provision of the on-call service in accordance with the requirements of the department
• Flexibility in rostered working hours between 8am – 8pm: will be introduced in line with completion of current national negotiations.
