Recreation Assistant
Essential Qualifications and Skills
• Qualified in gym supervision and instruction.
• Current First Aid Qualification
• Basic computer competence, particularly familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel
Desirable Qualifications and Skills
• 3rd level qualification up to the level of Diploma/Ordinary degree in Sport/Recreation/Leisure Management or similar qualification
• Code of Ethics & Good Practice for Children’s Sport Qualification.
• Current AED trained certificate.
• Good customer interface skills.
• Previous experience working in a similar position.
• A willingness to be flexible in relation to work rotas and duty assignments.
• To have the requisite knowledge, skills and competencies to carry out the role to a high standard.

Overview of Role
The position of recreation assistant will involve the undertaking of general duties for the proper operation, upkeep, maintenance of both the internal and external sports and recreational facilities: reception duties involving close interface with all facility customers. Operating all normal and emergency operating procedures. Also, requirement for temporary support for major events from time to time.
Duties Specific to the Role
• The supervision of all internal and external sport and recreational facilities
• Ensuring that the rules and regulations are complied with
• Maintaining operational records and implementing operational procedures.
• Preparing the facilities both before and after various activities: setting up equipment, pitch maintenance, setting out seating and staging etc.
• The proper storage of all equipment
• Attending to reception duties: Answering queries from customers, recording and checking membership, cash handling, operation of Club Organiser and Booking Organiser system.
• Pro-active supervision of the gym: new gym user induction, and customer gym programmes.
• Administer of First Aid as required.
• General cleaning duties: cleaning foyer, reception offices, dressing rooms and toilets. Cleaning and sweeping the sports hall floor and surrounds, collecting litter from external sports facilities.
• Children’s Summer Camp leadership duties.
• Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.
Salary Scale
The salary scale attached to this post is €35,707 - €39,935
Hours of Work
39 Hours Per Week
Working Week
Shifts: Based on a 39 hour week
Monday to Friday:
First shift: - 8:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Thursday
8:00am to 3.30pm Friday
Second shift: - 2.00pm to 10.30pm Monday to Thursday
3.00pm to 10:30pm Friday
Weekends: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Saturday & Sunday
On occasion when events are being held in Knocknarea Arena, staff may be asked to work up to 12 midnight.
When cultural / sporting events are being held in the Knocknarea Arena you will work on a 5/7-day basis, and this will include working evenings and weekends as required.
The operating hours may change subject to business demands.
