Recycling Centre Attendants

Fermanagh & Omagh District CouncilFermanagh£12.85 - £13.26 per hour

Wages: Scale 2+1; SCP 5 - 7; £12.85 - £13.26 per hour Wages will be paid on a monthly basis

Main Purpose of the Job: To control the operation of the recycling centre, mainly directing and controlling users, ensuring that waste is segregated properly, maintenance of the site to a high standard and undertake other activities such as litter collection in the surrounding areas.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Open and close the recycling centre. Before closing the recycling centre each day, ensure all personnel have left before locking gate.
  • Clean and tidy the recycling centre.
  • Control entry to the recycling centre.
  • Assist members of the public with disposal of their waste.
  • Assist with maximising the amount of waste which is going to be recycled.
  • Categorise waste material and actively be aware of the various materials, which can be recycled and effectively separate into designated containers.
  • To record, maintain and process all relevant site documentation for waste acceptance and dispatch such as Duty of Care Waste Transfer Notes, Delivery Dockets & Consignment notes.
  • To record and complete all daily activities in the Site Diary.
  • To carry out daily site inspections and control programme,
  • To carry out and record waste inspections and where necessary waste rejections.
  • Report all collection and emptying requirements for waste to Supervisor within designated timeframe.
  • Operate and be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment including baling and compaction equipment.
  • Interact and co-operate with members of the public, traders and business users, issuing directions and instructions and ensuring orderly conduct on site.
  • Reporting any occurrences of vandalism and illegal dumping.
  • Wear Council issued personal protective clothing (PPE) on site at all times.
  • Move and handle large items
  • Undertake basic maintenance activities, e.g. painting, fence repairs, etc.
  • Use and operate machinery; grass cutting and hedge trimming equipment; camera monitoring and recording equipment
  • Any other duties relevant to the post which may be allocated from time to time.

General:

  • To ensure full compliance with all Health and Safety at Work legislation in accordance with the Council’s Health and Safety at Work policy and all associated procedures and guidance and to be an advocate for high standards of Health and Safety performance.
  • To comply with all the Council’s Policies and Procedures including the Employee Code of Conduct and the Employee and Councillor Working Relationship Protocol.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria 1. Six month’s relevant experience to include some or all of the following: a. Experience of maintaining an outdoor environment b. Experience of maintaining a public area to a high standard c. Evidence of a general knowledge of recycling and the ability to sort items for recycling 2. Experience of dealing confidently and effectively with members of the public 3. Experience of working in a responsible manner, using initiative and with minimum supervision. 4. Experience of maintaining up-to-date and accurate records. 5. Possession of a full, valid driving licence and must have access to a vehicle in order to carry out the role. Desirable Criteria: One year’s suitable and relevant experience as outlined in the essential criteria. Competence in the use of I.T
