Regional Manager
Role Introduction:
Established in 1992, Applegreen is a leading convenience roadside retailer in the Republic of Ireland, the UK and the US in both large-scale Motorway Service Areas and Travel Plazas, as well as smaller petrol stations. The business has grown to over €3BN in annual revenue, operating 600 Motorway Service Plazas and forecourt sites internationally and employing over 16,000 people.
Applegreen is in a rapid growth phase and to support this ambitious growth, we are seeking to onboard a Regional Manager who will be The Regional manager will lead the full P+L responsibility for volumes, margins and costs across the region ensuring excellent customer service, high quality foods, employee engagement and development, standards and compliance, food safety and cleanliness for the PFS/SA stores.
This role will form part of the Operations team and reports to the Head of Operations, Retail Operations, ROI. It is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to excel. The successful candidate will be a confident people person who can fit into Applegreen seamlessly and adopt a hands-on approach to their role.
Key Responsibilities:
As Applegreen expands, the responsibilities will evolve and change over time. The core responsibilities will centre around the following areas:
Sales growth and Budget targets
- Oversees and ensures sales growth and that financial targets are met, trouble shooting and finding solutions for any issues that become obstacles for such
- Understands and teaches others to understand the importance of company profitability and controlling the cost of sales and cost of labour
- Monitors the labour content of each store to counsel managers on maximising profits without compromising service or safety
- Regularly reviews financials of each store to assure sales and profit numbers are in line with projections, and costs are at or below budget
- In partnership with store managers, establishes weekly and annual budgets for each store, and monitors results against plan
People Management
- Oversees all recruitment, training and development of management teams
- Coaches and develops Store Managers, and conducting timely and accurate performance appraisals on each, and assuring the same for their employees
- Tracks the training and development processes, plans and growth for all management members
Operational Standards
- Ensures all stores operating standards are exceeded for service and quality, sharing best practices from each store with other managers, which maximise store efficiency, profits, and employee utilisation and morale
- Reviews weekly checklists for efficiency in stock, cleanliness, service, safety, employee appearance and other Company requirements and standards are met and exceeded
- Ensures employee and customer feedback is sought and communicated to the management teams to guarantee the business is working to serve those that make it successful
Communications
- Review and keep apprised of all information relative to products, marketing, pricing, industry and community news, and any business-relative information, share the information with your teams, and ensure understanding, action, and execution is in place.
- Follow-up on directives and communications sent to teams via the Director of Operations, yourself, the Company Newsletter, and our suppliers. Ensure completion for results.
Marketing & CSR
- Manages charity events and fundraising, community involvement and community relations in store locations
- Directs and seek charity events and fundraising, community involvement and plans for successful execution
- Reviews and understands what marketing vehicles are profitable for the bottom line and makes suggestions of use of annual marketing budget with substantial evidence
New Stores & Rebranding
- Assists manager in planning and implementing grand opening.
The Candidate should have the following:
- Candidates applying will need to have a minimum of 2-5yrs experience at management level within retail, hospitality or food brands.
The successful candidate will:
- Have excellent people management and leadership skills and be a strong role model for Applegreen staff and our brand.
- Be a self-starter who can work on own initiative and ensure successful delivery responsibilities outlined above.
- Be a solution-orientated and positive individual who can work through constraints and obstacles to an optimal solution.
- Be very knowledgeable in retail operations including paperwork, till systems and reports.
- Possess well-honed influencing and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with all stakeholders across the different parts of the business.
- Is resilient and calm under pressure or when juggling multiple priorities.
- Has strong logic and decision-making skills.
- Can constructively manage any conflicts regarding design through to successful resolution and implementation.
- Experience gained in a progressive and rapidly growing organisation that has undergone significant change.
- Working knowledge of retail environment, customer experience and expectations etc also advantageous.
- High proficiency in all Microsoft Office software also essential (Excel, PPT)
