The Brothers of Charity Services Ireland – Southern Region is a major voluntary organisation, which provides age related residential, educational and day services for people with intellectual disabilities, autism and communication disorders throughout the Cork and Kerry area.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic organisation and be part of a multidisciplinary team that continues to develop its services in conjunction with Brothers of Charity Services Policies.

STAFF NURSE / ENHANCED NURSE (NIGHTS)

Ref: 10 2025

Permanent Full-Time

Location: Residential House, Blarney, Co. Cork

A panel will be formed as a result of this process from which subsequent Staff Nurse / Enhanced Nurse appointments (including part-time relief posts) within our Cork City and Upton (Innishannon) Co. Cork Services will be made over the next 12 months.

The Role

As part of a team, provide holistic support to people with an intellectual disability in their residential service, day service, respite services and within their community. The person/s appointed should be flexible in their approach to service provision and should have the ability to work as part of a team. They will be required to take an active part in ensuring that the day to day operations of the service reflect the ethos and vision of the Brothers of Charity and that the needs of the individuals they support are met through Person Centred Planning.

The Candidate

  • Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.
  • Candidates must:
  • Have a nursing qualification (preferably Registered Intellectual Disability - RNID) & registration with Nursing & Midwifery Board of Ireland - (NMBI) - An Bórd Altranais or be entitled to be so registered; and
  • Have the clinical and administrative capacity to property discharge the functions of the role.
  • Demonstrate initiative, good interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Possess a good knowledge of supporting people with an Intellectual Disability/ Autism
  • It is highly desirable that applicants would have experience working with and supporting people with an Intellectual Disability / Autism / Vulnerable adults
  • Possess a full clean Driver’s licence which qualifies you to drive manual transmission vehicles on Irish roads
  • Age
  • The Public Service Superannuation (Age of Retirement) Act, 2018* set 70 years as the compulsory retirement age for public servants.
  • * Public Servants not affected by this legislation:

    Public servants recruited between 1 April 2004 and 31 December 2012 (new entrants) have no compulsory retirement age.

    Public servants recruited since 1 January 2013 are members of the Single Pension Scheme and have a compulsory retirement
    age of 70.

    3. Health

    Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the
    role and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

    4. Character

    Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

    Salary Scale: Department of Health Consolidated scales (1/10/24) and depending on grade

    Staff Nurse: €35,919 - €53,851 per annum (Pro-rata for part-time hours)

    Enhanced Nurse: €42,872 - €55,594 per annum (Pro-rata for part-time hours)

    * Successful candidates are required to submit all documentary evidence outlining any relevant experience within 3 months of starting date. Failure to do so will mean that any incremental credit due now will only be paid from date of submission of documents.
