RTÉ Radio 1 is the most popular radio station nationwide, reaching 1.2 million listeners every week. 2FM is the destination for Irish audiences, music lovers and entertainment fans, connecting with listeners in exciting new ways through fresh energy, dynamic voices and the very best music, all while continuing its proud tradition of shaping the future of Irish broadcasting.RTÉ Video, RTÉ Radio 1 and 2FM are now looking to form a panel of suitably experienced researchers, to cover vacancies and absences which may arise in its programme production teams. Assignments in Video will include such genres as Entertainment, Daytime, Drama, Irish language and Sports and will report to the Head of Production Resources.Assignments in Radio 1 and 2FM will include such genres as current affairs, arts and entertainment, daytime and lifestyle, comedy and music, Irish language, and sports and will report to the Managing Editor, Radio 1 or 2FM Content Manager.As part of the programme team, the Researcher will make her/his creative contribution to the formulation and development of the relevant programme, source contacts and contributors and collect, verify and prepare information for broadcast within the RTÉ journalistic and editorial guidelines. About the role:If successful in your application, you will be:
  • Originating and developing strong story and content ideas 
  • Authoritative research of the subject matter, including a critical and editorial assessment of the quality and accuracy of information 
  • Assessing the quality and suitability of contributors and finding new and diverse voices to contribute to our output 
  • Preparation of briefs, publicity, scripts, pre-broadcast and ancillary platform material, including online and social media 
About you:
  • A proven track record in identifying a strong story/contributor/guest in TV, Radio, Online, Print or Digital 
  • A demonstrable ability to utilise all available research tools and a desire to learn new technical skills as required 
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulatory requirements 
  • Editorial and journalistic awareness 
  • Proficiency in the Irish language is desirable 
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to deliver against agreed timelines and targets 
  • Ability to consume information and respond in a professional manner which demonstrates diplomacy, tact, and sensitivity 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills 
  • The ability to conceptualise ideas 
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team 
  • The successful candidate will possess strong influencing skills, resilience, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, pressurised team environment 
  • Working knowledge of audio and editing tools desirable 
  • We are looking for individuals with creative mindsets, a passion for broadcasting and a strong interest in the media industry 
  • You will need to be creative with idea formulation and have a keen eye for identifying people and stories that make for appealing radio and television across all demographics
