We are currently seeking a highly-motivated Respite Manager including Person in Charge to join our team in the Carlow/Kilkenny Respite Service.
Contract Type: Permanent
Contract Hours: Full time
Salary Scale: €58,245 - €69,260 pro rata per annum
Salary scales are subject to LSI’s (Long Service Increments)
Annual Leave Entitlement: 34 pro rata per annum
This pay scale is subject to increases in 2026 in accordance with the recent WRC agreement towards enhanced pay adjustments in Section 39 organisations.
Overview of the Post:
The post holder will be responsible for the development, management and delivery of a range of respite services, including day respite, afterschool support, summer activity sessions and future overnight services working across Carlow/Kilkenny. This includes responsibility for the management of staffing, budgets, and the provision of the highest standards of respite care. This will consist of planning, developing, managing and reviewing services in line with the identified needs in the area and aligned to Enable Ireland’s Strategic Plan and model of service delivery.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring compliance with HIQA standards and the implementation of Enable Ireland policies and procedures supporting best practice and care in disability services ensuring that services are child-centered and in line with best practice.
Key Working Relationships:
Enable Ireland delivers services using the Social Model of Disabilities. Enable Ireland has a wide range of stakeholders with whom strong professional relationships need to be forged and fostered on an ongoing basis. These stakeholders include service users and their families and colleagues within Enable and in HSE and other agencies.

Essential Criteria:
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition have:-
· A recognised validated University Degree or an equivalent qualification in Intellectual Disability/General or Children’s nursing.
· Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) or entitled to be so registered.
· On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann).
Or
· Third level professional qualification in Social Care, registered on the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU.

· On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the Social Care Workers Register maintained by the Social Care Workers Registration Board at CORU.
And
· Practitioners must confirm annual registration with NMBI and CORU to Enable Irelandby way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
Candidates must also have:-
· The clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
· Candidates must have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability and ability for the proper discharge of the duties of the office).
· Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 5 years full-time post registration experience) of which 2 years must be in the area of children's disability.
· Applicants must be eligible to work in the state and available to commence immediately.
· Applicants must have clean drivers licence to drive in the state and access to transport.
Desirable Criteria:
· Demonstrates an understanding and knowledge of Enable Ireland’s services.
· Excellent knowledge and experience of the Children’s disability sector and related areas.
· Broad knowledge of the Progressing Disability Services for children and young people programme.
· Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
· Experience in taking leadership in the development of personal plans.
· Experience in responding to complaints.
· Knowledge of Quality systems.
· Shows evidence and commitment to continuous professional development.
· Formulate, implement and evaluate service plans and budgets in cooperation with the wider healthcare team.
· Contribute to the formulation, development and implementation of policies and procedures.
· Experience of working in a community based setting.
