Retail Area Manager

As Area Manager, you are responsible for the operational and strategic planning of the retail estate. To succeed in this role you will need to be an exceptional planner, with strong organisational skills. You will be able to work under pressure, able to multi-task and meeting tight deadlines will be a strength of yours. Your strong people and leadership skills will shine through and help you develop the team. You will have the ability to problem solve, with a great eye for detail with good business acumen and commercial awareness. As part of the Senior Management Team you will need to build relationships with different business partners and be the link between your stores and the support office.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a positive relationship with each store, store staff and store customer base to increase sales
  • Maintain costs within allocated budgets, through good time management, resource management, and the most effective call pattern for each store
  • Accurately interpret and communicate company marketing, merchandising and operational strategies to the field, including seasonal and promotional displays
  • Assume the responsibility for shrinkage within the estate, reporting security problems, shoplifting awareness and health and safety for both the stores and team members
  • Be responsible for maintaining acceptable standards of critical, store based, management controls to minimise all areas of risk or loss
  • Recruit, train, mentor, coach and develop store managers through weekly store visits to identify priorities based on skills gaps and demands of the business, and to maximise the potential of all managers in the retail estate
  • Conduct regular performance reviews with managers, ensure the manager conducts regular performance reviews with their team
  • Ensure excellent customer service through friendly, accurate field communication and good administration practices
  • Handle escalated customer service issues and ensure timely resolution
  • Drive employee engagement and promote a culture of accountability and high performance
  • Closely working with stakeholders to deliver opportunities of strategic benefit to The Group
  • Ensuring consistently high operational standards
  • Analysis of weekly store reports and take corrective action
  • Achieve sales cash figure target through specific KPI goals across the retail estate
  • Following and implementing all Company Policies and Procedures to drive the business
  • Actively pursue strategies to positively impact store profitability
  • Ability to learn a variety of job descriptions
  • To perform any other duties as assigned to you by your Line Manager

Experience & Skills:

  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • The ability to communicate clearly and effectively – both verbally and written
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Proficient user of Microsoft office suite mainly Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Confident, driven and enthusiastic
  • Decision making and problem-solving ability
  • Commercial awareness
  • Will have acquired considerable knowledge of large retail outlets and operations
  • Ability to manage, train and develop a team of staff including Management
  • Minimum of 3 years multi site management experience in a large retail environment
  • Full clean driving license
  • Business development experience and a proven track record of meeting targets
