Purpose of the Post:

The key purpose of the post is to lead on the implementation of the HSE Deteriorating Patient Improvement Programme and RHM’s Resuscitation Services across the hospital.

The post holder will provide strategic, clinical, and educational leadership in the management of deteriorating patients and resuscitation services within Regional Hospital Mullingar.

The post holder is responsible to ensure compliance with national standards for the recognition and management of the deteriorating patient, including the Irish National Early Warning System (INEWS), Paediatric Early Warning System (PEWS), Irish Maternity Early Warning System (IMEWS) ,Sepsis Management for Adults (including Maternity), and Irish Heart Foundation Guidelines.

The role encompasses clinical governance, education, audit, and quality improvement, supporting staff competency and promoting excellence in patient safety.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualifications and/ or experience

1.Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

(a) Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

i) Are registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann) or entitled to be so registered.

And

ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 must be in the speciality area of Acute / Critical Care or a related field.

And

iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative experience relevant to the role to properly discharge the functions of the role to include significant experience in emergency department nursing and managing staff.

iv) Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development at the appropriate level.

And

(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

2.Annual Registration

i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

And

ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3.Health

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

4. Character

Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specifics:

  • Demonstrate evidence of active instructorship in the area of Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
  • Demonstrate length and depth of experience in acute or critical care nursing, resuscitation with clinical education.
  • Hold instructor certification in Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support
