Purpose of Post

To supervise, maintain and operate efficient and effective Maintenance services at Regional Hospital Mullingar and assist and facilitate the development and planning of the service.

To manage and supervise staff, contractors, specialists, budgets and all issues associated with the provision of a comprehensive maintenance service at Regional Hospital Mullingar and aligned campuses.

Eligibility Criteria, Qualifications and / or Experience

Candidates must have at the latest date for receipt of applications for the post:

1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc. Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

· Hold a third level qualification to a minimum standard of Higher Certificate (Quality and Qualifications Ireland Level 6), in Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Services.

OR

· Possess a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 6 (or higher) Advanced Certificate Craft.

OR

· Possess the National Craft Certificate issued by FETAC for Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Services

AND

· Have a minimum of 3 years management experience as a foreman over trade discipline works relating to their qualification, andat least 5 years post qualification / apprenticeship experience in maintenance of industrial, commercial and domestic type buildings or similar.

2. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

3. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character

Post Specific Requirements

  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience maintaining industrial, commercial and domestic type buildings, specifically experience in the management of a small maintenance or similar team and the installation of new equipment, as relevant to the role.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in the installation of new equipment in an industrial and commercial setting, as relevant to the role.
  • Have successfully undertaken or be willing to undertake the Solas Safe Pass Health & Safety Awareness Training Programme, or equivalent approved training programme in line with service need. (Please note if you have not undertaken this training, you will be required to successfully complete this training on taking up the post).
  • As this post may involve the driving of HSE owned vehicles, the successful candidate is required to hold a full unendorsed Drivers Licence (Categories B, E)

Other Requirements Specific to the Post

  • Access to transport as this post may involve travel to support the duties this position requires.(emergency call out )
  • Overtime may be required to be performed to deliver on the, planned and unplanned activities of the general maintenance section.
  • The Maintenance Services Foreman (Electrical) will be required to participate in emergency call outs.
  • Candidates should live within a reasonable distance from service such that emergencies can be responded to within a reasonable time.
  • The Maintenance Services Foreman (Electrical) shall be required Carry a bleep or pager or communication device
  • Due to the nature of the business of the hospital, some of the works will be conducted outdoors (on roofs etc.) and in difficult weather conditions. The post holder will be required to work in all weather conditions when requested to do so, or when circumstances dictate
