Remuneration The salary scale for the post is:
€35,788 €37,252 €38,794 €39,204 €40,211 €41,082 €42,336 €43,636 €44,984
New appointees to any grade start at the minimum point of the scale. Incremental credit will be applied for recognised relevant service in Ireland and abroad (Department of Health Circular 2/2011). Incremental credit is normally granted on appointment, in respect of previous experience in the Civil Service, Local Authorities, Health Service and other Public Service Bodies and Statutory Agencies.

Purpose of the Post
To provide high quality Multi Task Attendant (MTA) services and functions at Regional Hospital Mullingar.
Catering Services
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Multi Task Attendant will be required to:
Professional Responsibilities:
• Work in an assigned service area, Catering Services, in order to respond to service needs in the most efficient and effective way.
• Be responsible for undertaking duties to required standards in all designated areas and maintain appropriate documentation in line with national and local policies and regulations as relevant to the role ensuring:
o The agreed standard of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in all areas.
o All cleaning requirements are undertaken using the approved cleaning materials and processes.
o Specific instructions are followed during operation of all equipment.
o Appropriate segregation and safe disposal of waste to designated areas is undertaken.
o The use of designated cleaning products with caution, following guidelines appropriate to their use and ensuring all cleaning materials are used economically. Products will be kept in a locked cupboard or room when not in use.
o Adherence to Health and Safety Guidelines and obligations at all times.
Putting away the deliveries for consumables, chemicals and food products according to HACCP principles and Health and Safety Guidelines.
Assist the chefs in preparation, cooking and serving food for patients, staff and satellite units. Producing food according to standard recipes and methods. Preparation of modified foods as required.
Using established opening and closing procedures for Staff dining room and CPU and ensuring they are adhered to.
• Be responsible for undertaking Catering Duties including the production and distribution of meals as assigned and associated environmental and hygiene duties in compliance with local and national relevant standards.
o Producing, presenting and distributing meals and other catering related services to patients and staff as required.
o Ensure work practice is in line with all hygiene and Health and Safety procedures, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
o Undertake duties including counter service ensuring agreed portion controls and customer satisfaction.
o Assist with special functions.
o Be responsible for undertaking hygiene and environmental duties to required standards in all designated areas and maintain appropriate documentation in line with national and local policies and regulations as relevant to the role including dishwashing, pot washing, cleaning of equipment etc and maintaining required documentation per HACCP cleaning schedules and checklists.
General Responsibilities:
• Attend for duty as assigned by the relevant department line manager or supervisor and at such hours as he or she determines from time to time.
• Take direction and guidance from Management and Senior Staff in relation to all duties.
• Report any equipment faults or risks to person in charge and ensure all equipment is stored safely.
• Demonstrate dignity, courtesy and professionalism at all times in undertaking the duties of the role.
• Assist in the provision of a quality service and work in line with national and locally devised policies and regulations.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all information made available to him or her during the course of his or her work.
• Maintain required standard of record keeping including checklists and any other documentation as relevant to the role (HACCP).
• Maintain required standard of appropriate and clean uniform.
Education and Training
• Participate in training courses as specified by the HSE, to maintain an up to date knowledge of technology, communications and health care regulations.
Risk Management, Infection Control and Health and Safety
• The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they comply with infection control and other relevant policies, procedures and protocols or guidelines (PPPGs).
• The post holder is responsible for ensuring that they become familiar with the requirements of all relevant Policies and Procedures.
• Be familiar with the use of firefighting equipment and fire and safety regulations in operation in the department.
• Have a working knowledge of Health and Safety Legislation, including the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (2005), Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations (2007) and a good level of knowledge regarding all other health and safety legislation.
• In line with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act, 2005 all staff must comply with all safety regulations and audits.
• Have a working knowledge of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards and HACCP Standards as they apply to the role for example Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards etc and comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and maintaining these standards as appropriate to the role.
• Use protective clothing and equipment as necessary during the course of duty in accordance with the Health and Welfare at Work Acts 1989 and 1985 and observe all other safety procedures currently in force. He or she shall carry out such duties as may be assigned to him or her from time to time.
• The post holder must cooperate with management, attend Health and Safety related training and not undertake any task for which they have not been authorised and adequately trained.
• The post holder is required to bring to the attention of a responsible person any perceived shortcoming in safety arrangements or any defects in work equipment.
• All accidents and incidents must be reported immediately.

Support Services
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
The Multi Task Attendant will be required to:
Professional Responsibilities:
• Work in an assigned service area, Support Services, in order to respond to service needs in the most efficient and effective way.
• Be responsible for carrying a bleep as relevant to the role, providing supporting service response relating to fire evacuation and emergency plans as required.
• Be contactable at all times when on duty.
• Be responsible for undertaking hygiene and environmental duties to required standards in all designated areas and maintain appropriate documentation in line with national and local policies and regulations as relevant to the role ensuring:
o The agreed standard of cleanliness and hygiene are maintained in all areas.
o All cleaning requirements are undertaken using the approved cleaning materials and processes.
o The appropriate use and care of equipment including floor scrubber and buffer or other equipment as relevant to the role.
o Specific instructions are followed during operation of all equipment.
o Appropriate segregation and safe disposal of waste to designated areas is undertaken.
o All required documentation including audit and assurance documentation for hygiene functions is maintained accurately and available for inspection as required.
o The use of designated cleaning products with caution, following guidelines appropriate to their use and ensuring all cleaning materials are used economically. Products will be kept in a locked cupboard or room when not in use. These supplies should be monitored to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained.
o Adherence to Health and Safety Guidelines and obligations at all times.
• Be responsible for MTA duties including transportation of patients to and from service areas and departments, transfer of equipment, medicines, specimens, medical gases or oxygen, medical charts or otherwise as required and relevant to the role.
o To undertake mortuary related duties and ensure all associated documentation is completed as required.
o Assist with the manual handling and personal care of patients as relevant to the role and support direct and indirect care of patients under supervision where required.
• Be responsible for undertaking Catering Duties including the distribution of meals as assigned and associated environmental and hygiene duties in compliance with local and national relevant standards.
o Presenting and distributing meals and other catering related services to patients, staff and the general public as required.
o Ensure work practice is in line with all hygiene and Health and Safety procedures, including Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) guidelines.
o Undertake duties including counter service ensuring agreed portion controls and customer satisfaction.

Eligibility Criteria
Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed application form for the post:
Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc
(a) Candidates must, on the latest date for receipt of application, hold:
(i) Possess the relevant QQI Further Education and Training (FET) Level 5 Certificate in Health Service Skills
OR
(ii) FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Healthcare Support
OR
(iii) A relevant healthcare qualification
OR
(iv) Be currently employed as an Attendant, Multi Task or a comparable role and be willing to undertake a QQI or FET Level 5 programme in Health Service Skills or equivalent
AND
(b) Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.
Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
