Purpose of the Post

The Staff Nurse with Paediatric Emergency Department Experience will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care to the highest professional and ethical standards for patients within the model of nursing care practiced in the paediatric clinical setting. The post holder will work as part of the multidisciplinary team in the provision of integrated care for service users.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must have at the latest date for receipt of applications for the post:

1. Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.

i. Be registered in the Children’s Nurse Division of the live Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered

Or

ii. Be registered, or be eligible for registration in the General Division of the Live Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland).

And

iii. Have the clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role

2. Annual registration

• On appointment, practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the General Division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland [NMBI] (Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).

And

• Practitioners must confirm annual registration with the NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).

3. Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service

4. Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character

Post Specific Requirements

Demonstrate professional knowledge and experience in Paediatric Emergency Staff Nurse’s scope of practice in a number of areas including but not limited to:

Nursing Procedures & Techniques

Clinical Interventions

Patient Observations

Ward Management

Medication Management

Clinical Governance, Risk, Health & Safety

Administration
