What is the Role:
Risk Assurance and Validation (RAV) is a Second Line of Defence Assurance function led by the Head of RAV within Risk and provides reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, Group Risk Committee, Board Risk Committee and Board Audit Committee.
The team conducts a continuous and comprehensive review of non-financial risks throughout the Group in accordance with the RAV Annual Plan. RAV challenges and influences business areas to ensure their control environments are robust and effective to mitigate key risks across the Group, including subsidiaries.
Acting in the ‘Second Line of Defence’, the primary objectives of RAV are:
- to assess the risks and controls defined and operated by the business across ROI, UK and US;
- to provide an independent evaluation of the design and effectiveness of the controls in place for policies, processes and systems to manage risk and compliance with regulations.
- Assuring the control environment supporting the delivery of change projects within AIB and the management of data used by the Bank to manage, monitor and report on its business activities.
Within RAV, the Non-Financial Risk team provides second line assurance over non- financial risks and the strength of the associated control environment and risk management across the Group.
These assessments conclude with the preparation and agreement of detailed reports to senior management, including reports to the Group Risk Committee and Board Audit Committee on the findings, key issues and actions.
This role provides high-profile exposure to senior stakeholders across the Group and supports professional development through structured learning and education support aligned to your role.
Key accountabilities.
- Be a proactive member of the team ensuring delivery of comprehensive and independent second line assurance reports for the Bank, and associated subsidiaries, across key non-financial risk areas.
- Support the delivery and oversight of risk-based assurance reviews that effectively challenges and influences senior management / business leader decisions through the agreement and reporting of assurance findings which drive improvements in the control environment to support risk management practices.
- Support the delivery and oversight of assurance reviews from beginning to end including definition of scope, test strategy, execution of testing, summary of issues and final report.
- Track and drive the completion of management actions by the business areas and stakeholders within agreed timelines.
- Stay abreast of legal and regulatory developments/guidance issued continuously across ROI, UK, US and Europe relevant to non-financial risk, whilst testing the effectiveness of the control environment (e.g. operational risk, operational resilience, third-party/outsourcing risk, regulatory compliance, conduct and culture, business model and change risk).
- Build and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of AIB processes.
What you will bring
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Risk Management and Assurance, Compliance or Audit in a Banking environment and associated risks, clear understanding and knowledge of control and risk management methodologies and financial services industry products and regulations.
- Have a proven understanding and experience of financial services industry products and regulations.
- Have proven experience in the management of and/or assurance over non-financial risk (e.g. operational risk, operational resilience, third-party/outsourcing risk, regulatory compliance, conduct and culture, change risk).
- Have a level of proficiency in understanding the role data can play in risk management and how weaknesses in data and reporting can drive risk outcomes.
- For this role, there is a preference for professionally qualified candidates in the areas of Risk, Auditing and Compliance
- Consistently demonstrate initiative, excellent attention to detail, solution focussed and ability to work to deadlines
