About the role

We are recruiting for a R,D&A Analytical Senior Scientist to join our R,D&A team in Naas.

This role provides information to flavour creation teams on what compounds make up the aroma/flavour of a sample. This is used for all matching projects, can be used for analysis of real-world samples (e.g. grilled cheese sandwich), as well as troubleshooting off-notes. This role also supports the quality functions across UK and Ireland by providing analysis to support customer and QC complaints.

The focus of this role is to support our research and development functions by successfully isolating and analysing flavour and aroma ingredients from a variety of food matrices using a range of sample preparation techniques and analytical instrumentation.

Main activities of the role are to provide, interpret and report compositional analytical data from match analysis of competitor products, as well as foods, flavours, flavour raw materials and intermediates to identify and quantify volatile flavour compounds in support of the product development process.

What will I be doing?

  • Selecting the most suitable sample preparation techniques and analysis methodology to obtain the required information for stakeholders
  • Interpretation and reporting of complex analytical data within agreed deadlines
  • Development and validation of analytical methods
  • Communication with stakeholders on analysis progress and interpretation of results
  • Accurately recording data in accordance with guidelines
  • Provide support in the investigation of quality control issues and product troubleshooting
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical equipment
  • Identify and investigate new developments and techniques in flavour analysis
  • Work in a safe manner in accordance with environmental, health and safety policies

What do I need to be successful?

In order to be successful in this role we would be looking for the right competencies and aptitudes as well as your proven track record of success in a similar role and environment. (we can reword this slightly)

These include:

  • Strong analytical, organisational and communication skills
  • Experience of GC and GC-MS systems and their related data handling software, especially in relation to analysis of flavours and foods
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Works well in fast paced, dynamic environment with a hands on approach
  • Good standard of numeracy and skills in data analysis, with a flexible and methodical approach to work
  • Ability to prioritise and schedule work to meet demands set by the department, company or external customer, often to short deadlines
  • A strong academic background is essential with a BSc or equivalent in relevant science based subject, such as chemistry, applied/analytical chemistry or biochemistry
