School Warden

Qualifications:-

(a) Be of good character.

(b) Be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold the employment and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. The successful applicant will be required to undergo a medical examination when deemed necessary by the Local Authority.

(c) Wardens must have good eyesight and hearing and be reasonably active and alert.

(d) Candidates must be capable of assimilating the training which will be necessary for the performance of their duties.

(e) Appointment will be subject to receipt of satisfactory Garda Vetting.

Conditions of Employment

(a) Wages: Hourly Rate €17.97 per hour.

(b) Annual leave and public holidays shall be given in accordance with the provisions of the Organisation of Working Time Act, 1997.

(c) The employment is part-time and is subject to the provisions of the Local Government (Superannuation Revision)(Consolidation) Scheme, 1998, Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 2004 and the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and other Provisions) Act 2012, Minimum Notice and Terms of Employment Act, 1973 and the Unfair Dismissals Act, 1977 and 2005.

Pension and Retirement:-

The person employed will, on reaching the age of 65 years, cease to hold employment. If defined a ‘new entrant’ under the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2004, the compulsory age does not apply and the minimum age at which pension may be paid is 65 years. If employed under the terms of the Public Service Pensions (Single Scheme and other Provisions) Act 2012, the maximum age for retirement is 70 years of age.

Probationary Period:-

The first twelve months of service will be probationary. If a person is considered unsuitable either during or at the end of this period, employment will be terminated.

Working Week:-

The School Warden shall normally be required to work 15 hours per week, i.e. Monday to Friday each week during the school term. These hours may be subject to change.
