What is the Role:

The Model Risk team is part of the independent, second line of defence Risk Function, responsible for Model and AI Risk Governance and Oversight. The team ensures robust frameworks and controls are in place to manage model and AI risk across the organisation, supporting Enterprise Risk objectives and contributing to AIB’s risk management culture.

This role will support the Model Risk team in delivering on a growing agenda, including the development and implementation of model risk frameworks, oversight of model risk within the Bank’s risk appetite, and the preparation of detailed reports and management information for senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will collaborate with model developers, validation teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective risk management processes and will play a key role in driving process improvements and automation.

Key accountabilities:

  • Promoting and implementing a robust model and AI risk framework through optimising infrastructure of end-to-end model inventory.
  • Maintaining model inventory and model and AI risk controls.
  • Designing and preparing management information reports to proactively support model risk management.
  • Identifying opportunities to minimise model risk and solve problems through data-driven insight.
  • Building and nurturing relationships across the business, supporting the Group’s goal of minimising model risk.
  • Clearly communicating model-related issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Driving process improvements and automation for efficiency gains.
  • Supporting the team in drafting response to audit/regulatory/ad-hoc queries.
  • Conducting and contributing to stakeholder training sessions as required.

What you Will Bring:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a finance, analytics, or risk-related role (credit/financial/model risk preferred).
  • Relevant third-level or postgraduate qualification in an analytical discipline (e.g., mathematics, statistics, engineering, finance, economics).
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; experience with data analysis tools (e.g., SAS, SQL, VBA).
  • Qualifications and/or experience with AI and SAS Model Risk Management (MRM) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to automate processes and leverage systems/databases for data extraction and analysis.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
  • Good knowledge of the regulatory environment as it applies to model and AI risk.
  • Experience in developing and implementing risk frameworks and controls.
