Security Supervisor

The Gallery wishes to recruit a Security Supervisor in the Operations department on a permanent basis. The Security Supervisor role coordinates the frontline security team and ensures security operational requirements are delivered to a high standard.

Reporting to the Operations Manager the Security Supervisor will:

  • Supervise and coordinate the frontline Security team
  • Implement security and safety management procedures
  • Implement policies, procedures and relevant Public Service Circulars
  • Respond to requests for assistance from other departments at the Gallery
  • Ensure the effective operation of the Control Room and Badge Room
  • Conduct room patrols and report any breaches of standard operating procedures or any matters of concern
  • Supervise events in the Gallery
  • Act as Emergency Controller
  • ·Assist in the opening and closing of internal and external doors
  • Assist in the event of a fire alarm activation or any incident that effects the safety of persons, property or the collection
  • Assist in the access control and supervision of contractors ensuring they comply with all security, health & safety requirements
  • Collaborate with the Trade Union
  • Ensure a customer focused service is maintained at all times
  • Be flexible to work weekends, early mornings, late evenings and take part in a roster
  • Participate in job related training in order to refresh and or upskill professional development
  • Have responsibility for overseeing the AGSS Monday Moring Training Program
  • Deputise for and take charge in the absence of senior management
  • Assist the Operations Manager and Head of Operations, as required
  • Complete other duties associated with the post, as and when required

The successful candidate will have:

  • A qualification in Security Management (or equivalent) at level 6/7 on the National Framework of Qualifications
  • Previous work experience in a similar Security role, with a knowledge of security operations. Some experience at supervisor level is required
  • Good supervisory, team building and leadership skills, with a willingness to motivate and develop staff
  • A working knowledge of Fire Safety and Health & Safety
  • Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Sound problem solving, judgement and decision making skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good negotiating and influencing skills
  • Good organisational, administrative and time management skills, with an ability to prioritise tasks to meet deadlines
  • Good IT skills (Microsoft Office)
  • An ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • A positive, flexible and proactive attitude to work, with the ability to remain calm whilst working under pressure
  • An energy, enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute effectively to a positive visitor experience and keep abreast of Gallery-wide activities
  • Industrial relations experience is desirable
  • An understanding of a time and attendance management system is desirable

The post will be subject to a satisfactory medical check and successful completion of a successful probationary period. Applicants must be fluent in English and be eligible to work in Ireland.

Known Consignor status:

The Security Supervisor will be required to be Air Cargo security trained. In accordance, a pre-employment check is carried out on prospective new staff covering the preceding 5 years. This pre-employment check involves examination of any unexplained gaps of more than 28 days. For all new staff, written confirmation shall be obtained from employers or other sources capable of verifying the information provided by the person for the purpose of the background check. No prospective employee who is required to undergo Air Cargo security training will be offered a position unless any gap of 28 days or more has been satisfactorily accounted for.

Citizenship Requirements

Eligible candidates must be:

1. A citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA). The EEA consists of the Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway; or

2. A citizen of the United Kingdom (UK); or

3. A citizen of Switzerland, pursuant to the agreement between the EU and Switzerland on the free movement of persons; or

4. A non-EEA citizen who has a Stamp 4 permission or a Stamp 5 permission.

Please note: A 50 TEU permission, which serves as a replacement for Stamp 4EUFAM after Brexit, is considered equivalent to Stamp 4.

To qualify candidates must be eligible by the date of any job offer.

Job Details and Application Information

Grade and Salary:

The salary for this position will be paid fortnightly and will be in accordance with the NGI Senior Attendant (PPC) pay scale, as per the 1 February 2026 pay adjustments. The salary scale for this position is as follows:

€44,900 €47,181 €49,207 €49,901 €50,991 €51,771 €52,642 €53,527 €54,416 €55,907¹ €57,753²

  • The starting salary will be at the first point on the scale, €44,900 per annum, or on a higher point of the scale, as appropriate to the successful candidate, if appointed from an existing public sector role (in accordance with Circular 08/2019).
  • Candidates should note the National Gallery of Ireland complies with Department of Public Expenditure and Reform regulations and guidelines on Public Service pay and conditions of employment.

Annual Leave:The successful candidate will be entitled to 24 days of annual leave pro rata

Superannuation: The successful candidate will be placed on the public sector pension scheme.

Benefits: The Gallery provides staff the opportunity to participate in the tax saver and cycle to work schemes, in addition to a number of discount schemes.

Duration: Permanent

Working hours: 35 hours net per week based on a roster that includes weekend working. This may be subject to change due to Gallery operational requirements and/or public sector policy.

Gallery work environment:Supervisors are required to work predominately indoors and on foot. However, on occasions outdoor duties are required.
