Job Overview
The Business Excellence Division within NSAI Certification provides a range of third-party certification activities to a broad range of industry sectors primarily in Ireland. Typically, the certification management schemes delivered to industry include ISO 9001 (Quality Management System), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System), ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management system and ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System).

The Business Excellence Division also operates European Union Ecolabel Scheme which is an environmental labelling scheme aimed to promote products and services which have a reduced environmental impact. These services are delivered by a team of both, full time and subcontracted professionally trained auditors, who plan and perform independent audits to evaluate and determine customer’s quality systems and/or products compliance to applicable standards and regulatory requirements.

Certification activities operate to ISO 17021:2011 the international standard for third party certification. NSAI Certification is accredited to this standard by INAB. In addition, NSAI Certification competes in Best-in-Class benchmarking audits undertaken by the World Body for National Certification organisations IQNET.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Conduct registration, surveillance and recertification activities at client facilities to assess their conformity to the related management system standard(s).
  • Prepare the associated pre and post audit documentation in accordance with all NSAI procedures.
  • Conduct technical file reviews of audit documentation to support the Business Unit in granting and amending client’s certifications.
  • Conduct Internal Audits of independent areas of NSAI’s Quality Management System.
  • Communicate with assigned clients and NSAI staff to ensure efficient audit planning and timely resolution of questions and non-conformities.
  • Maintain and expand technical expertise in specific product fields.
  • Establish and maintain strong professional relationships with customers.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of matters relating to clients’ operations.
  • Promote the Certification/Inspection service through the dissemination of information by correspondence, lectures and publications or otherwise as the opportunity arises.
  • Train/mentor staff regarding the above
  • Training/mentoring of graduate staff
  • Undertake travel throughout Ireland and abroad to evaluate applications for Certification and Registration Schemes operated by NSAI.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of matters relating to NSAI and business operations.
  • Perform any other duties as may be required by the Head of the Department.

Qualifications and Experience
  • Successful completion of a university or a technical college degree or equivalent qualification in relevant studies (NFQ level 8 or above). e.g. engineering, science or other relevant discipline
  • Five years’ professional experience in the field of management system certification or related activities, such as manufacturing, design or testing
  • Training or qualification as a Management System Auditor or Lead Auditor
  • Experience working within in an innovation function is highly desirable
Technical Competencies
  • Appropriate certifications for specific auditing functions; minimum two of the following: ISO 9001, ISO 56001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001
  • 4 years of documented experience for specific audit types and demonstrated proof of providing these services to other companies with excellent results
  • Broad knowledge of domestic and international regulatory compliance laws and regulations, including specific product directives.
  • Ability to develop procedures and processes to support the Division
  • Ability to provide training to all stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Ability to draw up records and reports
  • Ability to provide presentations/ training to stakeholders both internally and externally
  • Knowledge of management systems and related standards and guidance documents including ISO17021
