Senior Copywriter

Role Introduction:

We are leaders and innovators in roadside retail, encompassing food, fuel, and convenience offerings. Our global workforce includes retail experts, food scientists, interior designers, architects, fuel economists, traders, hoteliers, and all of our corporate functions. We are the largest motorway service area operator in Ireland and the US, and the second largest in the UK. We have annual turnover of more than €4.1 billion and employ almost 18,000 people.

Our strategy is to grow the Group by acquiring and developing new service areas in the three countries in which we operate, upgrading and rebranding our existing locations as needed.

Applegreen is experiencing rapid growth, and to support this ambitious growth, we are seeking a copywriter to join our creative team.

This role will be part of the Creative / Brand team and report to Zoë Wedderburn, the Group Creative Director. The successful candidate will be a confident, happy people person who can seamlessly integrate into Applegreen and adopt a hands-on approach to their role.

We’re reinvigorating the Applegreen brand across the USA and Ireland. We seek a creative writer/copywriter/strategist to help us define roadside hospitality for Applegreen—an entirely new space within the convenience retail sector. We no longer want to be seen or known solely as a fuel provider – we’re much more than that. This year, we are developing our first in-house creative team to create print and digital campaigns, enhance our brands, write for websites, and craft social content for various platforms to ensure consistency across all our touchpoints in Ireland and the US.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret, generate, or edit briefs
  • Research
  • Write original copy for a wide range of marketing and communication materials, such as websites, ads, brochures, campaigns, social media, apps, offline
  • Ideate on new projects
  • Present copy concepts and final deliverables in conjunction with designers
  • Campaign pitches
  • Revisions on copy/content
  • Collaborate and build relationships across departments to consolidate brand/product information
  • Keep up to date on marketing, advertising, and other trends to make informed decisions

The Candidate should have the following:

Qualifications, experience & skills

  • Generate a constant supply of ideas and concepts
  • Really adept with tone of voice, style, and other characteristics of messaging based on the product, industry, audience
  • Confidently explain their thinking around ideas/concepts
  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • A strong writer with a vision
  • Innovative approach to writing and how products can be expressed
  • Flexibility to adapt ideas to the needs of the business
  • Proofreading experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Can manage projects and people
  • Can work independently or as part of a team

Additional key skills & attributes:

  • A happy and positive energy (online or via teams)
  • 5-10 years experience working with brands in-house and/or agency.
  • A solid portfolio
  • Experience in content writing is a bonus
  • Experience in the hospitality space is a bonus
  • A dynamic individual who adapts well to change and can thrive in a rapidly growing organization that continues to evolve.
  • Proven track record of delivering to tight deadlines.
  • A highly organised individual who can plan and prioritise workloads effectively for maximum impact and adapt around changing priorities as required.
  • Ability to execute directly at high quality and pace.
  • Excellent drive, enthusiasm, commitment, and a keen interest in developing a career in Applegreen.
