Senior Internal Auditor

We are adding personnel to our highly collaborative Internal Audit team. You will report to the Internal Audit Manager and have close interaction with the Group Head of Internal Audit and will work with all business units across the group. This role focuses on both financial and operational audits and will involve a significant amount of interaction with senior business unit leaders. You must be comfortable with these interactive elements of the job and have excellent communication and influencing skills, as well as having the technical qualifications and experience required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine and evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of the systems of internal control across the various businesses.
  • Lead audit assignments and design audit programs in accordance with professional standards.
  • Prepare audit reports summarising audit results and making clear recommendations providing practical solutions to mitigate control gaps and improve operations.
  • Follow up and tracking of audit issues raised. Lead follow-up audits to ensure there has been remediation of issues identified.
  • Ensure audit work-papers comply with IIA professional standards and are of standard that enable internal audit work to be readily leveraged by external auditors.
  • Assist in carrying out special investigations as requested by CEO or Audit & Risk Committee.
  • Work closely with the rest of the Group Internal Audit team – this is a small and highly collaborative team.
  • Role will require some travel both domestic and international (circa 10 %).

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA or equivalent) and professionally trained auditor. They will have 3-5 years PQE outside of a practise environment.
  • Experience of leading audits of complex organisations with revenues of €20m + pa (per business unit).
  • Strong organisational and follow up skills including the ability to handle competing priorities and meet all deadlines and commitments is a prerequisite.
  • Excellent interpersonal and project management skills with the stature to quickly command the confidence and respect of the senior management team. They will have the gravitas to challenge management constructively on established practices and policies as necessary.
  • Experience of using data analytics techniques and software such as ACL/Diligent or IDEA is preferred.
