Your Role:

Working with the Head of Digital Enablement, the Senior Manager Engineering will align to the bank¿s Digital Transformation and Modernisation agenda by collaboratively creating high performance culture of engineering excellence.

The Senior Manager, Engineering will be instrumental in driving a culture of engineering excellence across PTSB. This strategic role encompasses oversight across multiple engineering disciplines, including application, mobile, web, platform, data, and cloud. The role holder will champion the adoption of best practices, innovative technologies, and continuous improvement methodologies to elevate the bank¿s software engineering capabilities and deliver superior digital solutions. 

Your Team:

Reporting to the Head of Digital Enablement, and with 5-10 direct reports, you will lead a specialised team of professionals. You will play a key role in delivering the key objectives of Group Technology, influencing at senior levels, and actively contributing to the management, development, and delivery of the overall Technology function. This role has an important remit, and the role holder will be required to establish and lead a positive, engaged, and empowered team who execute their work to a high standard.

Your Responsibilities:

Functional Strategy & Delivery

• Lead and inspire the bank¿s engineering capability to foster a high-performance culture focused on excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
• Oversee the strategy and execution of engineering projects across all digital platforms, ensuring the delivery of scalable, secure, and high-quality software solutions.

Risk Management & Control

• Has a clear understanding of their role as part of the first line of defence against Operational Risk and ensures the Digital Innovation functional activities meet all regulatory requirements, all internal policies and procedures and Permanent TSB¿s appetite for risk.
• Manages the Digital Engineering team in terms of the identification of risk and the design and implementation of effective governance and robust control systems to minimise risk. 

Lead an inspiring Culture

• Provide leadership with relentless focus on expectations of `What¿ and `How' of performance which contributes to the delivery of the bank¿s overarching objectives and strategy.
• Build a high performance team through coaching, mentoring, tackling underperformance and creating an inclusive culture

Stakeholder Engagement

• Work with other senior technology and business leaders to create a world-class digital delivery capability delivering exception customer experiences and business growth

Requirements:

Essential

• Bachelor¿s or Master¿s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven leadership experience, 5+ years, in managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams within a dynamic and complex environment, preferably in the financial services or banking sector.
• Extensive knowledge of software engineering best practices, including Agile and DevOps, and experience with a wide range of programming languages, frameworks, and tools.
• Language proficiency in .Net and/or JVM languages
• Strong experience in cloud computing platforms (e.g., OpenShift AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and understanding of cloud architecture principles.
• Proven thought leadership in digital, technology and service innovation.
• Deep understanding of engineering performance metrics, and drivers of performance. They will also have excellent financial acumen and be used to developing robust business cases and managing budgets.
• Experienced in rapid exploration and incubation methodologies including test & learn approaches and rapid piloting.
