The Role: 

Customer Operations develop, deliver, and support excellent customer service to both domestic and non-domestic customers within a regulated industry. Customer Operations is responsible for managing the customers relationship with the Customer Contact Centre, ensuring timely and accurate customer billing services and effectively implementing the Uisce Éireann customer strategy.

Connections and Developer Services (CDS) are responsible for the customer engagement and stakeholder relationship management of all connections to the Uisce Éireann network. 

The CDS team manage the customer journey from development concept design, statutory planning process, pre-connection, technical design, site quality assurance, vesting of new asset and final connection and metering, including developing commercial/technical customer agreements, and managing customer funding in adherence to all technical standards, connection charging policy and governance requirements. CDS are responsible for delivering a highly effective customer service, including reviewing, and implementing solutions to meet changing customer needs. Collaboration with several key business partners is essential for the successful delivery of connections on behalf of the customer.

Reporting to the Quality Assurance Regional Manager, the Senior MEICA Engineer will be responsible for all MEICA activities related to self-lay developments, ensuring compliance with Connection and Developer Services technical design requirements.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Receive and carry out detailed assessment of all pre-connection enquiries, connection applications, diversion applications, planning referrals and attached supporting documentation.

  • Perform initial capacity check and liaise with the Water & Wastewater Asset Planning team and Asset Operations

  • Liaise with the customer, if required, to gain any further information to enable the provision of accurate estimation and quotation for the required connection/diversion work 

  • Investigate technical compliance of the request; act in accordance with Uisce Éireann policy and guidelines where request is deemed to be non-compliant 

  • Investigate the legal status of the request; act in accordance with Uisce Éireann policy and guidelines where request is deemed to be non-compliant

  • Support design and delivery of network development work when the need for new connections warrants expansion and reinforcement, working closely with Asset Operations, Asset Planning & Asset Delivery and/or 3rd party delivery partners 

  • Design conceptual technical solutions for infrastructural extensions/upgrades or developments, large housing projects and commercial non-standard new connection installations

  • Investigate any potential future plans for the site that may influence the technical assessment 

  • Generate quotes and calculate fees for non-standard connections

  • Determine requirement for any additional technical planning in relation to the customer enquiry/application

  • Support process reviews at plants and identify measures required to improve effective and efficient operation (including operational improvements, energy optimisation, improved maintenance, and capital works)

  • Maximise the effectiveness of the team and develop and grow the skills of all team members through coaching, training and performance management.

  • Manage and organise MEICA activities/tasks of newly commissioned/upgraded water/wastewater treatment asset as required.

  • Lead, support and develop a team and provide them with the necessary direction and skills in order to ensure the provision of MEICA maintenance and repair services.

  • Provide regular progress reports to Regional Managers / Senior Field Engineers 

  • Contribute to achieving the objectives and targets of CDS 

  • Perform other such duties in relation to work and asset management as Uisce Éireann may reasonably require

General Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Collaboration with key internal stakeholders across the UÉ business

  • Responsible for promoting and delivering health and safety commitments across UÉ and its supply chain, reinforcing positive behaviours and delivering health and safety objectives and requirements to the highest industry standards

  • Support the delivery of the Uisce Éireann Transformation Programme, driving results required within the Directorate and supporting organisation-wide objectives

  • Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with Uisce Éireann’s Information Security policies, standards, processes and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of UÉ business information and delivery of critical services, in accordance with the NIS Directive and any other relevant cybersecurity regulation

  • Other duties as required

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience, 3 of which should be in Process Optimisation in the Water Industry

  • Proven technical competence is essential along with a relevant third level qualification in engineering (Civil Engineering / Mechanical Engineering)

  • Experience working within Water Services and/ or other Utilities is desirable 

  • Knowledge of monitoring, load management and ICA (Instrumentation, Control and Automation) systems is desirable

  • Capable of building a high performing team, in particular coaching, motivating and managing performance to develop people to realise their full potential and achieve results 

  • Ability to make decisions based on analysis of information within a very fast paced, customer focused environment

  • Strong knowledge of water and wastewater process technologies, operational performance and energy efficiency is required

  • Solid practical operational experience allied to technical knowledge (design, equipment selection and commissioning experience), together with an excellent understanding of the best operating practices is required

  • Require in depth professional knowledge of operational control of water and wastewater treatment processes, design requirements

  • Require in depth knowledge of both risk assessment and relevant legislation/regulations, coupled with the practical ability to undertake auditing and provide recommendations for improvements

  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 

  • Ability to:

    • Prioritise tasks, work with schedules and manage resources while remaining focused on team goals

    • Develop relationships to accomplish team goals coupled with dealing effectively with differences of opinion and conflict management

    • Establish courses of action for self and others to ensure that work is completed efficiently

    • Clearly convey information through a variety of media to individual across the organisation

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to deliver training to operations staff

  • We do the right thing -must be aware of the regulator’s expectations, targets and quality standards 

  • We aim high - analytical and problem-solving skills - e.g. ability to assess treatment performance to determine efficiencies, and to identify contingency procedures to minimise risk to public health and the environment when operational problems arise

  • We keep each other safe - experience/understanding of working within a strong health and safety culture
