Role Summary
As the Senior Quantity Surveyor your responsibilities will include accountability for providing expert cost management, contractual support, and financial control for projects across various sectors in Process Consultancy, Water and Wastewater Design Construction and Commissioning.
The Senior QS will work closely with other project teams, clients, and contractors to ensure the project is delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards, estimating and monitoring project costs throughout the various project stages ensuring they are completed within the projected budget and schedule.
The Senior QS will liaise with customer representatives and other third parties on commercial issues including agreement of variations, claims and any additional payments.
The role will also foster effective communication by liaising with contractors, subcontractors and other project stakeholders.

Key accountabilities for the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring robust, accurate and timely cost and value reporting at all levels
- Ensuring accurate cash flow reporting is implemented and reported
- Carrying out detailed cost management including forecasting and communicating the results as required
- Updating the Cost Value Reconciliation and commercial plans throughout project lifecycle
- Supporting the internal commercial processes ensuring adherence across the project
- Actively seeking to improve processes and procedures through innovation and challenge
- Developing a deep understanding of the processes and procedures used by any JV/Alliance that we work with, supporting and assist in their development and improvement
- Developing successful external relationships by ensuring that contracts entered into have terms and conditions that are appropriate for the business with commercial risks identified
- Ensuring that the supply chain are engaged appropriately with the correct contract terms and conditions
- Building and maintaining excellent internal and external client relationships
- Responsibility for subcontract letting, negotiation and financial accounting
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
- Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field
- Familiarity and qualified in using industry-standard contracts (e.g., NEC, JCT) and understanding of construction law
- Proficiency in software such as MS Excel, cost management tools, and project management platforms.
- At least 5 years’ experience in quantity surveying & 3 years within the MEICA water and wastewater treatment industry or similar
- Previous experience of commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations
- Previous experience is preferable of working with United Utilities on projects
- Ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of monthly reporting and earned value analysis and knowledge and experience in estimation and cost analysis
- In-depth knowledge of cost management, tendering, and procurement processes
- Demonstrable knowledge of complex civil engineering projects gained through first-hand experience
- Proven knowledge and skills in construction methods, health and safety, and legal regulations
- Skilled in monitoring construction progress and managing the project within budget and time constraints
- Good problem-solving, analytical and negotiation skills with the ability to collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions
