Senior Recreation Assistant

Lisburn & Castlereagh City CouncilAntrim£27,334 - £29,777 per year

KEY PURPOSE OF THE JOB: • To assist the manager on duty with the organisation and supervision of all aspects of operational staff duties and to ensure that the highest standards of health and safety, cleanliness and general customer care are maintained at all times. • On a shift basis, provide frontline supervision, dealing with daily operational developments including supervision of facility users, deployment of employees, employee cover, rotation of duties, meal breaks, issue of equipment and other materials, and directing specific tasks. • The post holder will undertake any other duties as may be assigned by the manager on duty including cover for sickness, leave or staff vacancies and will deputise for the manager on duty as required.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The services falling within the responsibility of this post are as follows: 1. Line management of Recreation Assistants, including the consistent application of all Human Resources policies & procedures, and the carrying out of interviews/investigations as required. 2. On a shift basis, and in line with Centre operational programme requirement, supervise the deployment of operational staff including allocation of tasks, rotation of duties, staff cover, scheduling of meal breaks etc., in compliance with Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Plans. Assist the manager on duty in monitoring the work of contracted cleaners and security contractors and reporting service failures. 3. Responsible for early opening of the facility and key holding duties on a shift basis and in line with Centre programme requirements. Assist the manager on duty by supervising use of the facility by the public, ensuring provision of high standards of customer care, responding to customer complaints/queries, and directing these to the manager on duty as required. 4. Help ensure that Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult guidelines and Council policies are complied with in the operation of the services and activities of the facility, to help ensure a safe environment for both customers and work colleagues. 5. When required, have responsibility for handling cash. 6. Help ensure that the very highest standards of health and safety for both customers and colleagues are maintained at all times and that all relevant statutory health and safety requirements and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council health and safety policies, procedures and work instructions are adhered to at all times. 7. Prepare reports as required for the manager on duty. Ensure that quality standards, work instructions, and records in accordance with Quality Accreditation systems agreed by the Council are followed and maintained. 8. Assist in the recruitment process and the inducting of new employees and work placement students, and assist with the programme delivery of ongoing staff training to employees. 9. Assist the Operations Coordinators in planning and organising special events and functions, providing adequate staff cover. 10.Ensure compliance with Council policies and procedures and operate within the highest standards of management and personal behaviour, which reflect the core values and behaviours of the organisation. 11.Promote equality of opportunity and access in service delivery and in the employment of staff through the mainstreaming of equality within the Council. 12.Ensure the provision of high standards of customer care across all the services provided by the Unit. 13.Promote and manage the service effectively and communicate in a way, which enhances and promotes the public image and overall reputation of the Council. 14.Develop and enhance working relationships with relevant partners and stakeholders to maximise corporate and community planning outcomes and to generate innovation in service delivery.

The post-holder must be prepared to work unsociable hours on a rota basis and to work additional hours as required. The post holder will be required to be flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs and requirements of the organisation. Qualifications & Experience It is essential that applicants have a minimum of: 1.1 – 5 GCSE passes at grade A-C, or a NVQ Level 2 or equivalent 1.2 – Three years’ experience as a Leisure/Recreation Assistant or equivalent 1.3 – One year’s experience in line managing a team of employees

Where applicants do not hold the qualifications as outlined in 1.1 above, they must demonstrate a minimum of four years’ experience in 1.2 above General 1.4 – It is essential that applicants hold a full (i.e. not provisional) and current UK driving licence and access to a car or have access to a means of transport which would enable the applicant to carry out the duties of the post. *Applies only to applicants who have a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act.
